Re: Melee Warlock
I don't have an account on the builder, but one that works and I'm currently playing with one of my drows is a 14 Warlock / 3 Bodyguard / 10 Daggerspell / 3 Shadowdancer (Bodyguard to qualify for Daggerspell; changeable for Rogue, although I prefer this class for this build). You get some Warlock and Bodyguard goodies, ITWF with Daggerspell and the deadly combo HiPS + Noxious Blast + acid invocation. Weapon Finesse to fight with two daggers. Also useable as a blaster with a pair of +4 daggers.

Re: Melee Warlock
The issue with daggerspell is that it is restricted to non-evil alignments (at least wiki says so). Meaning it is not available to larger portion of warlocks.freekender wrote:I don't have an account on the builder, but one that works and I'm currently playing with one of my drows is a 14 Warlock / 3 Bodyguard / 10 Daggerspell / 3 Shadowdancer (Bodyguard to qualify for Daggerspell; changeable for Rogue, although I prefer this class for this build). To the OP:
Either way, the general idea is the same. You grab some melee class and attempt to enchance it with hideous blow + maybe some extra invocations. I saw monk/warlock combos, assassin warlocks and played fighter/warlock myself. Dragonslayer is an option, except its damage reduction may break warlock's damage reduction.
You would need to be careful about multiclassing penalty. That's not an issue for a human, but for non-human you'll want to pick favored class for melee.

Re: Melee Warlock
Well my Surface warlock is a Melee/DC warlock. I decided rather than have a high strength I would give him a high dexterity and weapon finesse. Eldrich Glave is obvious a must, even if your melee damage is low Eldrich Glave will more than make up for it. Take mostly defensive invocations and take some sort of combat class with it (Swashbucker, Dragon warrior, Blackguard, Warrior of Darkness even duelist might be good) I'm nopt too sure how good a strength based warlock would be but leaps and bounds is like a 24 hour long cats grace so it helps hit enemies with weapon finesse.
My warlock is 9 Warlock/3 Dragon Warrior (Mostly for RP reasons, but the breath weapon and energy weapon are both helpful for combat)
Fire stride Exhalation, Brimstone Glave/Frightful Glave and the DW breath weapon have made him very formitable

Re: Melee Warlock
Go simple. Warlock16/Fighter4/Dragon Slayer 10. Max strength, don't worry about charisma. I've seen a lot of mixed up advice on warlocks in the past day or so. Either concentrate on being Str/melee, Dex/ranged blaster with hips, Cha based DC (my favourite) or con based hellfire. Don't try to be a combination of any of the above. The build split I posted was used by Pyro and he could solo the majority of the server on it.
Also, there is no Eldritch Glaive feat here ... that feat, along with other kaedrins warlock feats (empower blast ect), were crazy OP and I hope they never see the light of day on BG.

Re: Melee Warlock
That's my bad, I was thinking if hideous blow (?) Personally I'd like to so some of the meta blast feats, in their original state they are very OP but a good nerfing would create more interesting warlock combat. They aren't unlimited uses, I'd limit then to 2 uses a day max (1 use when this feat is picked, 1 more with an "extra meta blast feat) and rather than the extra 50% maybe a extra 1-20% damage? Although I'd rather have feats that add variety/ more interesting effects ( not necessarily more powerful) to your base eldrich blast personally I find that the small amount of Invocations makes the gameplay get boring quickly.AC81 wrote:Go simple. But I do t really want to have another argument about this

Re: Melee Warlock
Thanks for the advice so far much appreciated!
I have to say that EDM Ghostfaced killer warlock steve posted sounds very interesting.
Something like this perhaps? Any advice to optimise it? Anything important i have missed?

Re: Melee Warlock
Here is my version. It has Feats and such that were chosen to reflect the Character I wanted to play, so there are some non-optimized parts, but more fun (for me!).ctothep wrote:Thanks for the advice so far much appreciated!

Re: Melee Warlock
This seems like a tough build to itemize though unless you have a mithral fullplate and a 0% asf heavy shield.
What type of armor and shield are you running steve?

Re: Melee Warlock
In that build I posted, I played it until 21 of 23, and used mithral full plate, and sometimes, a heavy shield (mostly, I played it 2-handed). Though, most of the invocations are cast pre-engagement, so little worry about spell failure.
And if I was recasting Flee the Scene, I'd hotbar my shield and quickly select it away, cast, then reselect.
