Agathion class change...

Unread post by V'rass »

So i am bored again with Agathion but i dont want to scrap him as many people enjoy him and wish him to stick around. Cleric no longer has any interesting features for me but i would still keep him a priest of a sort. I tried out a druid last night and found the class both interesting and much more powerful. As such i plan to change Ag from cleric to druid. I can still rp him as a priest doing this, (albeit a more nature leaning one), but will have a whole new class to try and much greater power then before.

I will do this when i arrive home later tonight. Should be fun to try. Rp will be unchanged btw.

Oh yeah... things are going much better now that i made the change. Don't have as much ac but having premonition cancels that problem out. I have much higher health then before and better saves. Spells are quite interesting, more offensive then cleric which is nice. I can still crank out the healing and can actually hit things in melee for once. Everything is going well.

Some individuals don't like the wild changes. It is a belief that if you make a character and get bored playing with its mechanics you shouldn't just reroll into a different class, race or sex just to keep the name and whatever recognition the character has. Make something new instead.

I can certainly see that as the change is rarely roleplayed, and never well in my opinion if it is. Chances are high you'll eventually find the new change is not the "grass is greener on the other side" anyway, and then comes another change etc. However with that said while some people feel like this they themselves tend to make entirely new characters only to hang out with exactly the same characters as their former character did seemlessly, so don't feel too looked down upon :P

However!

Have you considered playing a 12 druid, 8 hierophant, 10 hospitaler? It's probably the best non-shifting druid around, with high DCs and lots of epic spells for a different visual experience. You use oaken resilience for defence together with whatever armor you're comfortable wearing, get 3 epic spells, epic spell focus in conjuration and 3 epic wisdom (2 from hospitaler bonus feats) for your epic feats. It's a powerhouse for DC spells and a bit more priestly :)

Come on now. Does this serve any purpose other than to make him feel bad? Lets keep this passive aggressiveness in PM's or better yet, off the forums altogether. We're all better than that. :)

Depending on the clergy in question, the line between a cleric/druid is very fine and there's ought to be mobility between the two.

Since both classes also rely on vows that can be broken, it makes sense to lose the relevant powers.

its not that they are not powerful, they are indeed almost op if built right. The problem is I am stuck having to use the same spells over and over again with no variety. Clerics only get a handful of offensive and defensive spells and in D&D are supposed to wear armor and do melee which is not the style of priest I enjoy playing. I prefer priests more like those found in RL, they are purely spiritual and have no ability to fight or wear armor as that is not their purpose.

D&D is not really optimized for such, clerics are expected to wear armor and fight so any caster based cleric is going to be pathetic compared to a wizard or sorcerer as a purely magic using class. I love the class and will still play my cleric but I wish there was the kind of spell variety that wizards and sorcerers have access to. It would make playing the class fun again.

What God were you using as a Cleric? Do you intend to keep it?

When I play good priests I usually choose Ilmater, if I go evil its either Gargauth or Bane.
Current priest is good so Ilmater. I rp him as slowly finding out Ilmater has been supplying him power since he lost his connection with his previous god when he arrived on Toril. I will prob keep my cleric, either the good one or the bad one. Have not made up my mind yet.

I am confused by your concept. None of those three allow druids.

The one I have is no longer a druid, I switched back to cleric. Druid was fun but the rp prob would not have worked out.

A Cleric/Hierophant could have a very powerful Implosion spell. There are further options as well, depending on Domains and other classes, but they are not designed as Offensive Casters. Why not play a Sorc/Paladin?

My implosion is already quite powerful. Fully buffed its dc is around 34-35 which is good for a lv 21 character. If I keep my cleric and he reaches 30 the dc should be around 39-41.
