Grind area spawn rates
Wondering if it would be possible or alright to turn up the spawn rates slightly for certain known grind zones. Could constitute for swarms of monsters trying to flush out the adventurers.
Small list of zones are (subject to change):
Graveyard (might be fine as is)
Cloakwood
Gnoll Cave
Xvart village
I'm talking a slight bump.. Maybe on the scale of 20%.
Thoughts?

I'd agree but with a side note.
20% would just result in 20$ XP bonus.
Instead, make some script that would make spawn some big angry killer mob of monsters-avengers every random count of normal monsters slain in a timespan. More challenge - more fun!

I didn't know there were grind areas on the server!

Some people sit in taverns and rp.. Some people grind.. Some people do both. I like having both options open.

Re: Grind area spawn rates
my point being that it's still a RP area, not a designated "grind" area, and the only reason people "grind" in those areas is the already comparably higher spawn rate or rate of XP

Re: Grind area spawn rates
Seems a popular concept. Clearly we have become a server of grinders.
I'm agin' it for a very practical reason, if it becomes too beneficial to grind in these places then normal, non-grinding adventurers will never get a look in, because these areas will be inundated (even more than they are already) with grinders. If anything some of these should have the spawn rates turned down.

Re: Grind area spawn rates
Ethics of the server being what they are (Med. Roleplay)... People that want max level will grind. And nothing will change that... XP bumps or not.
Some want characters that grow with the grinding (levels). Some have characters that mostly grow with Roleplay. Some have backstories that "require" certian skills or feats to be where they want to be at.
Whatever ones justification for Roleplay or Grinding, qualifications for roleplay or grinding, concept-of-character asf... most will find themselves killing monsters for a while now and then.
Yes, we are a slow leveling server ... which is also part of the charm... I mean, it took forever to get a level in the original Baldurs gate... and sure, we can go above and beyond the original game, but ... I dont really think one can prevent grinding from happening, nomatter how much you disincourage it... Hell even if people started at level 30 they would still go grind for better gear.
So... to increase or not ... I dont think it matters really. If a person wants max level, they will get max level. If they want rp, they can go get rp.
So I Honestly dont see any negative or positive either way. True, it makes it easier for Solo-players... However I would'nt say it encourages solo play... People who play solo will play solo, and neither lowering or raising will stop them from prefering that play-style by a large margian.

Re: Grind area spawn rates
Moltrazahn, you're a wonderful ray of sunshine equality!
My only argument is that I don't want to see the server split into grind areas and RP areas, unless staff/admin want to change the concept of the PW, then it is a medium RP server. Every area should be able to be enjoyed by all, under the banner of medium RP. The areas proposed already have negative stereotypes of grind areas, why further it and detract from the base premise of server?

Praise the sun!
And well. .. it's just that we've had this topic brought up now and then... and where there often ain't much done at the end of it... well people still get by
. Even a few cases of minor adjustments to something... tho despite having been here since 2009.. the general consensus haven't changed.
I WILL say who... a random rare-spawn/boss mob would be fun. Nothing like a rarespawn boss to make people group together trying to take it down. Granted that might be the MMO-mindset in me talking. Still if a boss spawned after a set amount of npcs had been killed... effectively preventing grinding till its been taken down... well... could be fun
get a little more exp if you manage to kill it... however too hard to solo.
I could see the fun in that.

Re: Grind area spawn rates
I'm not going to lie.. I have difficulty rping on this server because of how incredibly lore heavy it is. I am constantly getting lore checked and its not like i can pick up a book and read to educate myself.. The lore is scattered across games, multiple books out of print, and websites. Frankly I'm shocked that DMS know as much as they do about things like gods, prayers, and rituals.. Like I've read as much as I can find online and the well of knowledge just keeps getting deeper.
This lore learning curve puts discouragement in rping right off the bat. I prefer the adventure rp.. But only after my character is developed. As a rule of thumb, I make my characters with the ability to solo up till epics. Then at that point, once the character has some solid rp/structure, I look for other epics to adventure rp with or do events with.
Notice I didn't say anything about increasing the spawn rates for epic zones.. Just lower known grind zones. I grind, I'll admit it and I rather enjoy it. I only wish it was a little more rewarding. It was said to me "trying to grind on BG is like 5 minutes of boredom then I end up quitting and playing something else."
Honestly the most fun me and my friends have is when we are grinding and a DM jumps on to crank up the spawn rate then toss a boss or a hard fight at us. It would be awesome to create an event trigger like people have mentioned that after lets say you kill 100 Xvarts activates a swarm.. so you get wave after wave after wave then a hard fight against say a boss or another very difficult swarm. After which you gain a nice little substantial exp buff as if you finished a quest. Shoot make it a quest for all I care so you can rinse and repeat all day. Like a 300-500 exp bump at the end of everything would be nice.

And some other poor party or even individual walks into this swarm without expecting it? Never mind then, as long as you're having fun.

Re: Grind area spawn rates
Most of my builds are terrible, I don't think I could handle the extra mobs spawning.
Wouldn't say no to an increase in the XP per kill/RP tick however, doesn't have to be a big one.

I play Medune I think? maybe? probably? I'm not really certain.

Re: Grind area spawn rates
So, is this a plea for higher XP per kill, or more spawns with lower XP per kill?
Is it a request for more XP per grinding session on average for the time investment by the Player, or is it a request for more things to kill for Player enjoyment during time invested?
Is this a request for grinding to increase leveling speed rate, or is this a request to relieve boredom from grind gaming via more things to kill?

Re: Grind area spawn rates
Blah. It is bad enough trying to RP at lower levels the way people power grind without respect to story. Why exacerbate the problem? I for one see no good reason to increase the leveling speed.
