Re: UD expansion?
I want to RP in Cormyr, or in Luskan, or in Zhentil Keep or in Athkatla... Does that mean that I get to ask for those areas to be added as well? The surface setting of this server is centered around the city of Baldur's Gate, the UD setting is centered around the city of Sshamath. There is already a lack of players in the UD, do you really want to split the population even more by introducing a whole new city into the mix? Surface areas should already be cut down by at least 50% IMO and more focus should be put into the actual city of Baldur's Gate, because the scope of it is huge. Do you want to see the same situation happen to UD? Mind you, considering the number of UD players, the scope of the UD wouldn't have to be expanded much for the player population to be spread way too thin. Adding a lolthite city might draw a few more players, sure, but at the same time it splits the population so much that the extra population likely wouldn't even be noticed. UD doesn't need expansion outwards, it needs more work and focus on Sshamath itself. More housing options, more places to RP, a grander bazaar etc. And yes, what it also desperately needs is easier access to the surface.

Hm, you might be right Thids. Still a few more high level areas would be very nice. Or just new areas at all. As far as a new city goes, I rather would see a corner somewhere for the Svirfneblin. Just like the duergar have in the lava caves.
Please just talk about it in the thread Grymhild was so accomodating to open.

I know the staff is extremely busy with many other things but I am just wondering if there are plans in the future to expand the UD as far as areas and dungeons go? The surface is very good in its amount of dungeons and it's diversity. Will the UD catch up?
Thanks for reading

More mid-high level areas for adventuring would be welcome. Killing duergar for 10 levels leaves only the most persistent players down in the UD. I was talking more in terms of actual expansion of the scope by adding another city into the mix.Nyeleni wrote:Hm, you might be right Thids. Still a few more high level areas would be very nice. Well, you're kind of arguing forum semantics at this point, but ok. *goes in the other forum post*

Maybe I am misunderstanding things but.. Aren't we capped on areas and adding areas to the UD would mean taking areas from the surface?

That would be the best possible arrangement. Surface is too bloated as it is.

Actually, it's pretty much Duergar from mid to epic levels unless you want areas that have broken doors so summons and animal companions can't go through with you.Thids wrote: More mid-high level areas for adventuring would be welcome. I'd really like some areas for epic levels that don't have door transitions to the same map that leave your companion there.

its been done before... the pit fiend is a stolen surface boss alone with the entire area that leads to him that was strategically attached to the illithid minesDM Echo wrote:Maybe I am misunderstanding things but.. I just fear this means Ditto is finally going to get to send his little gnome bombs down to BG sewers and seal up my favorite area.

Re: UD expansion?
I play Drows ... thus i just play UD in BG ... and yes ... on some levels scopes it's quite repetitive and boring so if more areas will be added it can just improve the player experience.
Maybe also improve the player base that lives UD that is frankly quite small ... i play mostly alone ...
so thumbs up for more "alternative" areas
ps
also the idea i read on another 3d of a "shared" area between surface people and UD people could greatly help building stories and open RP opportunities

Honestly, as a former builder of the UD, I can honestly say I have very little to no desire to build for the underdark, simply because doing so would make very little difference. Take the Illithid Hive for example. It took hours to make that area and yet a good portion of the server will never see it. A shame, because it is one of my favourite areas that I made.
I would guarantee more builders would be willing to expand on the Underdark, if it was open to the whole server. That won't ever happen though.

The Hive was done well though tfunke, id say its at least in the top five areas to roleplay yourself through with a diversified group.
