Fencer/Duelist? One rapier, no offhand?

Unread post by fearknight2003 »

Well, I have my sorceror, and I love playing him, but I like melee people, and I want an alt anyways, but all my ideas so far are awful about this.
Anyone know how to make a non-sneak DEXer with a rapier main-hand and nothing offhand? I guess sneaking wouldn't be bad, but I'd really prefer not sneaking. Does anyone know how to do this?
(Also: please don't say mithril breastplate. I don't know where to get one and I never seem to have more than ~1,000 gold anyways.)
It was a fun year (I think). Bye.

Doesn't Whirling Dervish require a slashing weapon and Two-Weapon Fighting?

You are confusing Whirling Dervish with Dervish.

I think I'll go with pure Bard using a rapier. How well does that work?

Take one hander feat, end up in 30 int (with items).
Sad, sad, terribly sad...almost cruel in its sadness...is that a build like this, does not get Evasion.

From what I'm seeing, a Parry/Tumble Swashbuckler/Fighter/Duelist/WM would work out good?

Chambo, it's the idea man!! A swashbuckler/duelist Character that can't Evade like a pro!!

Its. Just. Wrong. Mate.

But yeah, EW might be the Golden Feat for some, but considering it net's you -15 AC and the chance to better Crit, saying "its not useful" is kinda funny!!

I don't know about 40ish dmg...maybe on foes without Crit Immunity or DR. But that is kinda rare in the Epic Levels.

Don't get me wrong, it is fairly fun build you got there. But I wouldn't play it, when there is some better options overall.

I played that in the UD and did extremely well. It isn't 100% optimized as I make some choices based on theme or what I simply want to play...but it levels just fine and is an absolute blast.

No...but I also didn't flaunt my Intelligence, like some gnome lover I know...Gnombordini!!!

I'm just saying—again—that Swashbuckler nor Duelist getting Evasion, is just S.T.U.P.I.D. PnP or no PnP.

evasion is nice, my original swash did have rogue levels... but trying to do a sneak version after the gear pull wasnt happening so i redid her for just brute force - added F/WM, swash/duel stayed the same

tho i wouldnt really call evasion a must have for the combo, if you end up with low hp and are unable to take a hit... maybe yea, but if you have good AC and the hp then honestly most of the time its only something that does take a reflex save that will hurt you - but with swash, duel and WM your reflex isnt gonna be low so its not as if you are also failing the saves

I've tried to play a few Characters that had builds without Evasion, and even with high Reflex. I tell you the truth: too often for my taste, the toon got murderized by some Reflex-fail-high-damage event, like a trap, or a somethinorsomethin, and it bummed me out (not to mention: imagine how my toon felt?!?).

And yes, Evasion in Platemail, even Mith Plate, is a bummer and would be nice to see fixed.

The Duelist ability says it only works if they wear "no armor". So... they can't wear armor at all?
