Exactly. The plot was written and didn't need my participation.

Re: The Real Adventure Party #2
playing the game should be about having fun with friends. if you are not having fun, step away. i am pretty sure this is not about this DM's mistake, it was just the last straw.
the fab five will continue without you. but i, for one, would prefer to keep you with us. but only if your head is in the right place. remember why we formed this group. who Gonn was when we first met. where you were when we first met. Talk to you sooner or later.

Re: The Real Adventure Party #2
I have to admit I was pretty peeved when it first happened. I wasn't sure if it was an accident by the DM to have some hopelessly difficult encounter (it's happened before on a different toon, where a DM spawned level 30 gnolls on a party of people who weren't even level 10 and he meant to spawn groups of level 3s). I had no idea if he was aware we were a permadeath group or not (I do not think he was aware).
After I cooled off and saw there was indeed a point (and what I believe to be an interesting bit of character development for us all) I'm really looking forward to next week.
I think Apidae's observation is very perceptive. If your heart isn't in it, you shouldn't try to force it. Take care of yourself.

Re: The Real Adventure Party #2
My guess is the initial plan was to kill us all off. Then, after the first adverse reaction, the first player to voice their objection was given an opportunity to keep their character alive. Then the second adverse player reaction resulted in the whole plan being scrapped.
Some people were upset that their character was killed, others seemed to be more focused on what happens next.
I don't know what was planned, but, I assume there was some reason we needed to die for it. Springing certain death on us was a bit shocking, however, now that we've had a chance to calm down how does everyone feel about it?
If the DM wants to kill us all off so they can start up something else, fine by me. Maybe we were going to become a party of undead in service to a necromancer? Maybe they wanted us to start over as drow for an underdark campaign? As long as it wasn't just so they could delight in killing us I think it's great. What bothers me more than the loss of my character is the loss of the first story we were about to be part of that might have been something more than a thinly veiled excuse to go grind.

i honestly believe it was a mistake and we could have worked through it. in fact the hook was the first hook i have seen that was super creative. even if we were supposed to die that is fine. i just think that shadow spawns in the fugue may indicate a oops not a F-you. IMHO DM's dont really do that unless you REALLY deserve it.
I am still down for sunday. look forward to it

Re: The Real Adventure Party #2
So we have a fundamental disagreement, because for me a DM just killing everybody off to force a certain plot through is railroading. IMO it's poor DM'ing and I don't care if the story was creative or not. RPGs are supposed to be a collaboration between DM & Players. It could have been handled better to achieve the same result.
I don't object to dieing; Gonn's done it a few times already as you know. But it was as a result of how own actions, not something forced on him.
The shadow spawns in the Fugue were just insult on injury. For me the thought was, "What is this DM going to do next, delete the character?". I'd had enough.
aaron's 'point' is completely wrong. I was on holidays for the previous two Sundays and looking forward to playing again. This wasn't a last straw; it broke the camel's back on its own.

Re: The Real Adventure Party #2
The DM in question has already apologized, so I believe it was just an honest mistake.
DMs typically try to avoid "Total Party Kills." They're usually almost as annoying for the DM as they are for the players, because the only way to resolve them without taking it out of character is via a deus ex machina.
That being said, it is still easy for the DMs to misjudge the power of a party, and, in an effort to provide a challenge, accidentally spawn creatures that are too much for the party to realistically handle.
I would encourage you to try again. The DM is obviously contrite, so it wasn't a malicious act meant to embarrass anyone or ruin your storyline, and has offered to try to make it up to you. Perhaps with some additional communication on both sides your story could really get turned in a super fun direction for everyone involved?

This. DM Sword was doing fine.aaron22 wrote:ok. well i am over it. been over it for a bit. a mistake was made. im not going to flip my lid over a mistake. i am all in on giving DM sword more chances. and more so appreciate that he took the time to give us attention.
I had a few reasons for getting a DM to join us.
1) We were in between going going to Dragon Spear Castle the quest thids had given us and farming xp so we could do the quest thids gave us. I've been bored with the static NPC quests and grinding for some time so I figured we got a group so why not call in a DM?
2) We have two people who are pretty new to the server in the group so I thought it would be fun to take them on an adventure.
3) Why not?
All in all I am just looking forwards to whatever is next.

If Gonn truly is gone, perhaps we can hold a memorial for him at our next gathering? How do we want to play this?

Re: The Real Adventure Party #2
I've definitely been hoping for more DM involvement. That the DMs can control the NPCs so they can actually react to the party in a dynamic way, instead of a bunch of programmed pseudo-choices that all lead to pretty much the same place, is the entire appeal of a NWN2 persistent world for me.
Take the DM involvement away and there's plenty of other games that are more fun to just RP among players and kill monster in. Without DM involvement we're playing a third person view, turn based game, with a dozen or so quests instead of one of the many first person games, with real time combat mechanics, and hundreds of quests, and I have no idea why.

Re: The Real Adventure Party #2
Killing you guys was indeed just a big screw up on my part. I feel terrible about it even now. The shadow in the fugue is interesting since I didn't put any shadows there.
I'm sorry you feel like I was railroading you, what you witnessed was a DM trying to recover from his mistake, and not doing a fantastic job of it.
Honestly at this point I really just want to scrap the whole idea that I had and start fresh.

i thought your recovery created a game plot so unique that i was proud to be apart of. but i can understand your desire to play the module as you designed.
