Anyone tried to solo the Icedragon?

Unread post by HivaOa »

There is the giant dragon in the south of Nakel and I met him several times with a group of people. He is so strong and tough and according to my knowledge, it will be a long long time fighting. My question is that is that possible to solo the Dragon with a specific build?
As far as I know, he has 65ab 60ac and a bunch of damage immunity and damage resistance.

The ice dragon is pretty much the end boss pve-wise on the server. He is not supposed to be soloable. DMS can spawn things that are harder... but without those he is the topdog when it comes to pve encounters.

In the past some were able to solo him but he was made stronger since.

This dragon is barely done because it is so powerful even parties must be specialized to hang tough against it. A group of Evil casters can take it down easy. A group of Good guys with a TRUE TANK AND HEALER can take it down as well. You WILL NEED AT LEAST 4 EPIC PCs to do it though.....I think this dungeon and the boss need a re-vamp to make it more acceptable to get done as a group. Also the loot is not any better off that boss as compared to any other epic boss so the risk reward does not match up either. Which is silly in my mind.

The best I've heard is that its possible to duo with a bard and a weapon master. I've been trying to convince a bard to try it out with me for a while now. A bard is able to sustain itself tanking the dragon but it needs someone to take the first mords for them. That and they wont be able to do enough damage without running out of songs first so they need someone to do some sustained damage for them. Because the dragon isn't crit immune a weapon master is probably the best in terms of damage (especially with bard buffs) but an archer or rogue might be able to take his place.

The problem in the past I've had with my weapon master doing it in larger groups of 4-5 is that she would keep drawing agro from the bard tank. While she could get 57ish ac without displacement and mirror image you aren't going to survive very long because it usually happens when the bards requiem is on cooldown.

Considering the incredible fubar RIG and the drop rates of ALL the chests in the game more does not exactly equal better. In fact the RISK VS REWARD in this particular case is a worse number than just farming the Frost Giant King or even killing the Balor on Grey Peak and or killing the Dracolich in the VOD. For the ice dragon considering it takes 4 or more epic pcs I would think the chests would never drop any item lower than +3 and would have multiple gems of the rare quality if gems drop. 300+ gold for gold in them that kind of thing but they do not. In fact spoons and tankards are the highest drop for many chests and of course a paltry <30 gold and often some mostly useless potion that can be dispelled quite easily. So really the ONLY option is to loot grind FAI and or FARM bosses for any type chance at a decent to epic drop. I farmed this whole server and it is all the same you just have to decide which map you prefer for your build really. Some of the great changes that took place like everyone can loot a chest in dungeon were great starts of a good fix but they are only starts not finished products so other things need cleaning up. Loot drops that scale according to dungeon properly are a big thing in my mind and if the ice dragon is the PVE end all you should be able to find some pretty stunning things for the risk. As it is you will usually walk out with a spoon, an ale and probably a poison or potion you do not use.......

I'm pretty sure that thing is impossible to duo now. Are you sure you aren't talking prechange? We tried it with a dedicated tank, a healer, backup tank/expose and weapon master DPS and didn't succeed. All of course were epic, 3/4 were 30. The fight itself lasted over 21 minutes and we still failed.

I'm only going by what Selande has told me. I haven't tried it for myself (yet).

ive two manned him with a cleric and a fighter... tho it was me on the cleric with a base heal score of an 83 and one of molag's fighters.... and it still took us 3 tries to get the timing for items down

this was also right before the regen nerf tho, but that just would have meant i would have used more kits instead of barely using any, 2 kits a round rolling a 1 each time she would still heal 170HP with +1 kits

but the trick was the healer (me) had to be ethereal so i was never a target and could give all the buffs to the fighter who also was using UMD

the tank has to be able to also not take any damage as much as possible also, displacement may not seem like it would do much against him but if it dropped off at all he would take a LOT of damage, and of course used scrolls of stone body for the crit immunity, the 10/- was nice but didnt exactly stop too much but yea those two have to be up constantly

I find that Mirrors + Displacement + Ethreal Visage = NEXT TO NO DAMAGE against it but if you are SOLO that is very time consuming to keep those up alone and deal damage. I managed to last about 3 minutes post update against the dragon SOLO with Kory and scrolls but it still killed me. If you have someone dedicated to putting that up on a fighter and another healing you might be able to do it with 3 PCs. I am still wary that 2 can do it though.

It's possible to Duo with a FB/WM specialised in scim with a good tower shield, and a dedicated healer (possibly bard yes) with a LOT of healing kits.

As for solo, I did it with his previous version, but didn't try it since it was updated, but burned like 100K in scrolls/potions.

It's probably not possible now, or it'd cost like 500K to do, and take a very long time. The key would be sustain in priority, and slow but steady damage.

Killing that thing is more for the bragging rights than for the treasure.

I've done it once, but with a party of 6-to-8 and I was pretty useless throughout the fight. :P They would have won without me just the same, in other words (I think I did like 75 damage in magic missiles or something), but it was not a fast fight and it was also a couple years ago so I'm not sure how it plays out now!

it would be possible with 2 still but mirrors would only be good the first time, it would take too much effort to keep it up which means a major loss of damage since the dragon will eat thru it like a bag of skittles

and yea i think molags was a F/WM/FB/rogue but with a falcion

but after we killed him with just the two of us, my cleric ended up in a random ass group about a week later after the heal nerfs with like 20 people and we killed it, but only because one of the was a dragon druid that i kept alive

Did it in a party once, the crappy loot made me not do it a second time.
