Experiences with Aid attack / Aid defense

Does anyone have experience with these abilities?
What do you think about them?

I was having a good time in the graveyard using these abilities to make the undead easier to hit for my companion. I had to pay special attention to drawing the enemies to a place where my ally could get good shots at their sides or backs.

I had the impression it worked well.

I love these. While in low level parties on my wizard, it made me feel like I was actually able to contribute. I'd be fully buffing the fighters in my party and then aid attacking/aid defensing as that was a better use of my actions than trying to fruitlessly attack or simply hide in invisibility.
