Spell School Specialization Bug

Unread post by Steve »

I figured out why my character sheet was not showing up properly the chosen spell school of Abjuration: If one chooses the Wizard Class on a second level—in my case, I choose Monk for 1st level, then Wizard—then a bug occurs where though you may choose a Specialization School, it places General in the Character Sheet.

While it seems that my Toon still receives the +1 per spell level bonus spell via specialization, which is good, it also seems to allow me to pick and cast spells from my chosen opposition school (that being necromancy). Though one can learn and memorize a spell from an opposition school, it appears the toon cannot cast it (a message appears in the Log stating "...the weave denies you."

If anyone is curious why I wouldn't just take Wizard on my first level and Monk the second, well, that is because I'd loose 6 Skill points. Which eyes aints gunnaz do.

This is a feature of the revamped prohibited spell school scripts. It is the responsibility of the wizard to roleplay their prohibited spell school and not waste their money buying and adding spells from a school they have chosen to eschew.

Instead of prohibiting the scribing of such spells to a spellbook, scripts prevent the casting of all spells of the prohibited schools. This also applies to spells cast from scrolls, I believe. This was how Rasael chose to implement his new prohibited spell school system, otherwise we'd still be stuck with the forced choices of Vanilla.

Roleplay accordingly, folks, cuz you can't bypass the system now!

I think we can chalk the second-level-no-spell-school-on-character-sheet down to an NWN2 bug.

That can be fixed.
But its ultra-low priority because everything else related to spell-schools is working. You can pick it when you become a wizard. You can select opposition schools through the custom feat & conversation. Etc..

It would require replacing the stock character sheet with a custom screen.

I heartily agree it's low priority, as long as the Character still receives their bonus spells per level.

The biggest issue then is confusion for the Player, when viewing their sheet.
