Loris Jarlian's Journal

Unread post by fearknight2003 »

This place is terribly boring. I tried hunting gnolls today, summoning an elemental and going invisible. While the Elemental gave a good show for a bit, it got old quickly, and I was off exploring.

I saw smoke on the Lion's Way, off to the side of the road, and went to investigate. After a few moments, the armored-warrior-man and the hooded lady noticed I was there (probably the smell of cooking meat, I may have stolen a bit from the gnolls). The hooded lady seemed frankly terrified, I think she's a bit insane, and the armored man was just wary. Then the hooded lady mentioned some desperate cult, and I decided that it wasn't worth the risk to use their campfire.

A few days have passed since my last entry. I tried the gnoll-hunting again, and found a frost-mage worshiper of Auril in the cavern. She seemed nice, but her aim was off with the spells, and I learned that acid hurts.

She had to leave earlier than I did, so I spent a few more minutes crushing any of them who tried defending their home, and left. Travelled north a bit, then remembered that I'd left my journal up by the Friendly Arm Inn, and had to come back here.
It was a fun year (I think). Bye.

It's been another few days. I went into the Cloakwood Cavern, in search of a lizardfolk egg. I met a gnomish pact mage, a mindless dwarf, and a half-orc paladin of Sune. I followed invisibly, offering them wards and watching them (and obliterating their enemies when they were overwhelmed). We met a cleric of helm that used his power to summon demons. I left the group and went back to the surface.

The man's name was Roman Shaw, I think.

Wow. It's already the 5th of Flamerule. I can't believe I've already been here for, like, a week.
In my travels, I found my way to Candlekeep. Deciding that if I was to stay here long-term, I should probably at least start renting an inn room to sleep in rather than camping outdoors.

As I entered, I saw a strange group of people outside. I overheard the names Osmoffin and Elynni, if I remember right (probably not, my head is a bit foggy.) One of them mentioned frost giants, and another said something about a dragon! When I questioned them, the only answer I got was 'Ice-hopper'. Clearly, the logical assumption is that they were off to kill the pet bunny of a Frost Giant and white dragon whom shared a cave.

No, that's stupid, but if there's a dragon nearby I want to know. That seems important.

I also rented an inn room in Candlekeep. Room 22. Ten gold a night seems a tad overpriced, considering the cost of magical supplies (and my meals), though I may be able to cut costs by hunting my own food (I hear the stag beetles in Cloakwood don't taste half bad if you season them right.). Other than that, it's been a rather boring two days.

This was a fun day! I met two new people, Electra and Whatsisface guy whose name I forget. We went hunting hags in a cave! Electra needs to work on her conjuration technique, but otherwise it was great. When it was time to leave, I decided I would try a teleportation.

Then I learned that Candlekeep was warded.

So we left the cave. Then I was tired, so I went back to the Candlekeep Inn for rest. The room is still much more expensive than many inns I've seen, but the food isn't bad, and it has running water, so I can't complain.

Haven't written in a while. Last week or so has been pretty boring.

I ran out of money, so I'm back to camping a bit off the road.

Time to start looking for work...

I learned recently that extended stays in Candlekeep Inn require permission from the Candlekeep boss guy, and I'm out of gold anyways. I guess it's time for me to move on from Baldur's Gate, for now.
