One Shot Question

Unread post by Syracuse »

Hello.

So while following my build along for Wyn'caellia, I finaaaally hit level 28. I was all hyped up to take One Shot, which was placed in my plan-o-gram for Wyn. One issue.

Turns out it isn't a bonus feat fighters can take. I wanted to propose making it one. As a combat oriented, weapon feat, I just kinda felt at a loss why it wasn't there.

I'm not entirely sure how many 'epic' feats are qualified for fighter bonus feats. So, I can't really say with utter certainty that 'this seems to be an oversight'. I'd need the input of the QC to figure that one out. Just a proposal, I can't really add anything to a conversation should it ensue after this.

Thanks for the time.

I'll take a QC look at it tomorrow unless Ras or someone else chimes in before then.

Wyn does have 27 base Dex, right?

Yessum! She had all the prerequisites for it. The only thing available out of the 'Epic' column was Armor skin.

Edited: To clarify, the 27 Dex was taken that level, and of course had the prerequisite Rapid shot and Point blank shot feats.

And like hell was I gonna pick that. ;)

only prereq feats taken on the same level allow you take an epic feat, stats have to be set the level before

Do they? That's my fault, then. Well, mine and the NWN2 vault thing's fault.

Thanks for clarifying!

I just made a 28th level fighter, taking 27th point of Dex at 28th. I was able to choose One Shot at 28th as a bonus fighter feat.

You might need to give me more details about your build (levels & breakdown) & stats so see if I can replicate your issue, because my test fighter didn't have any problems at all.

Now I'm gunna test that Frontline Archer feat

[Edit] OMG Frontline Archer is sweeeeeeeeeeet!

This is not true.

An epic Fighter's bonus feat list expands to all feats they qualify for. For example, a Fighter 22's bonus feat list comprises all feats for which she qualifies; a Fighter 18's list will only include feats from the Fighter bonus feat list for which she qualifies. Note that this is for epic Fighter levels (Fighter 22, 24, 26, 28, 30), not simply Fighter levels taken after character level 20.

I suspected that was the case, RedLancer. I'll confirm that in a few hours' time, Syracuse (ok maybe more like 10 hours' time :P)

You don't need to confirm. One Shot isn't on the Fighter bonus feat list.

One shot is available because I already chose it IG with my 28th level fighter.

And Mango, frontline archer is a melee longbow trip attack. It fires off immediately as soon as you hit the hotkey, assuming the target is in melee range. It does not disturb an attack round at all.

If it's a pure 28th level fighter then his list of feats is different than in a case of, for example, 26 Wizard / 2 fighter.
Hidden: show
In epic fighter levels (Fighter levels 21 and beyond, not just Fighter levels taken beyond character level 20), fighters still gain a bonus feat every two levels, but the list it can be chosen from expands to the entire list of feats the fighter meets the prerequisites for. Non-epic fighter levels that are taken in epic levels (fewer than 21 fighter levels, but 21 or more total hit dice) can be spent to get epic feats, but only those in the fighter's bonus feat list.

Yep this seems to be the case.

To take One-Shot as a bonus fighter feat, it must be on an Epic Fighter bonus feat level (22, 24, 26, 28, 30).

>21 levels of fighter only gives a character access to the non-epic fighter feat list.

One-Shot isn't that great, though. Misses too much for my liking (yep, it misses if you roll a 1 on the attack roll, which, given NWN2 RNG, is far too often  ). You'll like Frontline Archer though, I guarantee, if you can spare the 2 feats to get it 8-)

Honestly, it was less about the 'trick' of One Shot, as opposed to a means of overcoming mage DR.

This isn't to turn this thread into a sudden discussion about what I say, so please don't here~. But, One Shot's major benefit when we can't have adamantine arrows, is a nice heavy damage check against a caster in particular whom has premonition up. At least, that's what made me want to give it a go.

But... hell, a trip attack for archers? Yes, pls. Mnhah~. I'll have to go nab that, asap. Thanks for all your help, guys!
