Lunatic's Wandering - Calania Aseph

Unread post by fearknight2003 »

((This isn't a journal, it's short stories about my character, Calania Aseph.))
(Most of these will be written on my phone when I have time)

Calania was hunting. She had just stepped away from the road for a moment, looking for food, when she smelled something. She lifted her snout into the air and sniffed, holding very still for a moment. Then she was off, running as quickly as her wolf form could handle, towards the smell. Meat.

She paused, seeing a gathering of people. Canine paws shifted to armored feet as she peeked through the bushes warily. They were just sitting around a fire, eating some sort of meat. Beef? No, it looked like chicken.

She muttered prayers in Sylvan, watching the minor transmutations spread across her pale skin, turning it into a hard layer of bark, making it hard to see in the forest.

Content that her camouflage was complete, she dropped to her hands and knees, crawling toward the fire through the tall grass. The meat, the delicious, juicy chicken meat, was just on a platter, sitting on the ground. It wouldn't be bad to take just one piece, right?

She finally reached the prized food. Slowly inching a hand from the grass, she tore off a wing, sliding back into the bushes. Sliding over a twig, which snapped under the weight of her armor.

"Hey, what's that?" One of the men stood and looked around him. They were just off the Trade Way, not too far from the Farmlands; he didn't expect any danger.
He definitely didn't expect an armored woman to jump up from the ground, grab their chicken, and run off into the woods.

"HEY! COME BACK HERE!" One yelled, fumbling for his heavy crossbow. They all grabbed cheap weapons and rushed after her, shouting swear words and threats.

Calania, holding the chicken in one hand and her mace in the other, sighed, muttering prayer and quickly turning into a Treant.

She rounded on the angry farmers, raising her free hand and swiping the air above them.
There was a moment of tense silence, before they turned and ran. Some screamed; a few dropped their weapons. As soon as she was sure they weren't coming back, Calania shifted back into her human form and sat down to eat.
Finally, she had her prize, the chicken.

The two boars circled each other warily, both snarling and ready to charge. One was already injured; he was defending his territory, and had already faced multiple challengers. The other was younger, and unhurt. Then they both froze, hearing a song.
The druid walked into the clearing, singing a prayer in Sylvan, calming the beasts. As she stopped, and the spell wore off, they began to growl again.
"No, no, you're both green..." She whispered, as soothingly as she could manage. "Friends, let's be friends?"

The older one considered her words. He didn't understand the language, but he knew what the lady was saying. He stepped forward and allowed her to pet him gently.

The younger ignored her, scraping one foot against the ground and preparing to charge. She sighed, muttering spells under her breath as he charged.

His tusks slammed into her with a great BAM, but she did not move or make a noise, her wards had held. She placed a hand on the angry boar's snout and continued her prayer.

Soon, she walked away from the clearing, a healed older boar sleeping behind and a friendly younger one following her to a new home. (He quickly wandered off, bored.)

Calania smiled, watching her pig sleep. Robert laid on the ground, against a hay bale, with two of her piglets cuddled against her. The sow kicked a bit, dreaming. The scars, clearly visible as bite marks, would eventually fade- Calania hoped they would, at least. She sighed, touching the collar, Robert's gift to her. She wished she could keep Robert and her piglets safe outside the inn.
The moon above shined down, and she knew without looking that it was past midnight. She couldn't stay any longer.
Muttering a prayer in Sylvan, asking the goddess Mielikki to protect Robert, she left the inn. Breaking into a sprint as her form shifted, she ran in her Goddess' land as a wolf, thinking sadly of her pig.

She again resolved to kill the evil man who had hurt her pig. The man in the mask. She would find him, she swore it.

Calania continues her dance, singing prayers in Sylvan as she spins around the clearing. The light cloth dress, green with a black cloak, obscured her feet. Her armor sat abandoned on the grass nearby, shield and weapons piled atop it. The light raindrops landed on her face as she sang her prayer to the Forest Queen.

She froze as she heard it. Metal sliding against its sheathe. The bushes rustling nearby. A twig snapping under booted feet. Her song changed, a call to the heavens for aid.

The heavens answer. Storm clouds thickening, she finishes her spell and watches as pillars of lightning strike the three bandits. They cry out, then go silent.

"Get 'er lads!" One called out, and four more rushed her with a huge scream. She stepped back in alarm, hurriedly shouting a spell, when a club hits her in the gut.
"Hey! What are you-"She was interrupted again with a blow to the left temple.

She didn't try to talk anymore. She let out a feral growl, baring her teeth and leaping at the club-wielded. As she moved, she felt her form shifting, fur sprouting, snout growing.

The dire wolf Calania ripped the bandit to pieces, howling in challenge at the remaining three. Two turned to run, as one lifted a crossbow.

The archer didn't even have time to blink. She turned back into a human, rushing the last bandit and frantically shouting prayer. Moving one hand in a clawing motion, the Arc of Lightning flew at the target, destroying several bushes and killing the crossbow man.

She sighed sadly, muttering a prayer over each corpse and sprinkling leaves on them. She slid her armor back on and walked off, singing softly as she travelled.

Calania sighed as she walked away from the Friendly Arm Inn, back north. She felt disappointed, but she didn't know why. Robert trailed behind her, next to Whiteout, as they headed off to find her older brother.
