Dude.. I would love to see a Malorite pack roaming the countryside.. that be awesome! lol

Why not reduce the spells and make the class unable to multiclass with cleric, Paladin, and BG?

Honestly a rule banning a few FvS multiclasses would be equally effective to a stat change, and it will probably be equally unpopular.

If you think the line should be moved, that is one thing.
You read my mind/post. The FS is too far out of line. It is not just a little better. Even with the proposed nerf it would remain amongst the best and totally viable. While my line is above dragon druid and below bard, it is so far below FS you need a damn 4k TV to see that far. There is a huge difference between Game Breaking and OP. FS rests comfortably on the former side.

Another thing I would like to see looked into are Barbarians. Poor celarysoran is all alone

Also to nerf soloing. Why not make things a tad complicated. Requiring groups to open doors. Some world of Warcraft style bosses where you just gotta do things with groups and in order.

Basically not a stomp the comp but a puzzle to crush it. :)

The proposed WIS stat change hurts but one FvS build. THE EDM FVS. This is IMHO the one true gripe on this thread. The power of a EDM FvS.

Now if for some reason they decide that the FvS gets these nerfs though mechanically Kory would still be the same RP he would not so I would retire him and move on at that point. Which does sadden me as he has yet to kill or be killed by his vengeance against a red dragon. For me the ultimate end for Kory is to be immortalized as an NPC here in BG. I just need to do more to entrench him into BG lore here and that is where I fail. I am not nearly the people person that other players like Lisa, Nomster, Kleomenes, Darkcloud777, Gymhild and many many others to be able to create that kind of RP.

I really think this thread is at this point going around in circles coming back to two main points that IMO are valid. The PvP power and RP of the class. If we can not effectively address this particular thing I believe nothing should be done. There are too many variations of EDM builds already allowed and honestly since that is the main FvS that is the issue at this point then the WIS change fixes that.

Also to nerf soloing. Why not make things a tad complicated. Requiring groups to open doors. Some world of Warcraft style bosses where you just gotta do things with groups and in order.

In WOW the loot drops are insanely great for the effort. While here that boss drops a spoon and an empty ale stein. This is the real reason no one groups up since the only drop on the boss they really want is the one in one hundred billion drop of an item and no way they want to roll a 1d100 against 10 other people to get it.

Oh god, so much this. Can the classes that have been lacking in power and use get some attention before we give any to ANY sort of caster? That seems like a better use of resources, although it may be a tad off topic.

While I am not sure this directly addresses the issues some seem to have with FvS, I would love more areas like the Stone Giant cave that requires two characters with high strength be present to even get in, and often a third to go through the door and open from the other side for the two STR guys.

Making an epic feat harder to take for a particular class doesn't address what makes the FS too powerful. Do this to better balance the class:

*Remove Weapon Focus and Weapon Specialization
*Remove Energy Resistances
*Remove Haste
*Remove Damage Reduction
*Make Reflex a low saving throw

Karond wrote: No Atlas, that's not the domain of paladins. Most deities are not sponsoring paladins. You're thinking of divine champions for the general use of that sentence. Paladins are a niche for only a few.
Karond, if Paladins are niche it is because of the poor implementation they have suffered on BGTSCC for the last eight years, and that their territory has been stolen from them by others who want power and status, but none of the massive restrictions and discipline and control and personal unfulfilled life style that comes with what it takes to be an Olympic athlete.

The Divine Champion is supposed to be a Fighter Prestige class (the 3.5 ed 'class kits') that turns your Fighter into a Paladin-Lite. Essentially a lieutenant for a higher power like a Paladin or a powerful villain of some sort if you are an evil character instead.

The implementation of the Favoured Soul on BGTSCC has always belonged to this self loving fantasy of having power and self indulgence at the same time.

This is a medieval fantasy setting where the cosmic forces of law and discipline are at odds with chaos and indulgence.

The former is meant to be few and elite, and the latter of much greater number and lesser quality.

The Paladin is supposed to be the noble champion of the divine and mythical warrior hero for the lawful good guys.

Most deities do not sponsor Paladins, yes. Most deities are not the 'paragon' lawful good alignment either.

Most deities are not even militant, and their Clergy and Temples aren't either.

You have got three base classes (Favoured Soul, Bard and Druid), and a minor pantheon of prestige classes below them (Weapon Master, Dwarven Defender are definite, etc - no prestige class should make a base class redundant, they are meant to be the 3.5 ed version of class kits) that are so out of line with everything else, that these classes ruin the game for anyone who wants to play anything else.

Has anyone here thought to ask, how many good players have been driven away from BGTSCC because of this situation?

I know most who have tried running in the Paladin circuit over the years have.

What it all comes down to is this:

You either bring everything else up to match these few select erroneously favoured arch types, who never should have had dominion over all others, and ruined it for all others. Or you nerf these few down to be in line with the rest, and make the field of play fair.

If nerfing is the route decided on (none of this is ever going to happen) then after this we would be done with phase one and can move on to the Bard and then the Druid, and then the offending Prestige Classes.

Also it makes rp sense, infact probably a favored soul who doesn't use their gods favored weapon is kinda dissing their god.
Unfortunately this would just result in people picking the god with the best weapon, as happens with the countless istishia clerics who picked it solely for water domain and evasion.
If nobody cares about clerics not rp-ing correctly, then why should we suddenly care about favored souls not rp-ing correctly?

Close to what I was suggesting. Also, make their DC Charisma based too. This would empower them a little bit, but with the removal of all fighting oriented feats, it would make them interesting spellcasters.

Also, you might consider making the class like barbarians ; non-lawful only. It's per lore that Lawful deities make very few favored souls, where as chaotic deities got more of those.

this sounds a bit too much like a witch hunt

i doubt bg staff is prepping to sweep across the board nerfing numerous classes and prcs, only to watch the playerbase exit stage left

back to the topic at hand. IF FS is above the line, as mentioned above, we need to discuss what to do to properly bring it inline, without ruining it, and without ruining characters and rp, and without ruining players' fun

It's a rubbish class which frequently never sees role play - with people playing their 3 level paladin dips as their 'class'. The fact it is absurdly, comically out of balance is just icing on a really foul cake.

Any role play you can do with a favoured soul can be done post nerf. You will probably see more of it in fact. It is a wishy washy class in rp however and I will be lobbying for that to change as well.
