I am attempting to piece together a Warlock build.
I searched the NWN2 character builder website for ideas.
I started seeing that a couple of the builds seem to get improved unarmed strike feat automatically. it appears at level 1 in the "extra" feats they get. Its like they get this feet for free somehow.
My first question is does unarmed strike work with the ranged touch attack blast ability?
My second question is how are they getting this feat as an "extra" (the feats you get automatically for choosing a specific class). Was there a time when Warlocks were getting imp unarmed strike for free or something?
Thanks in advance for any wisdom on the matter.

Re: Warlock Question
I think Kaedrin gave them the feat. We don't do that here. I can't remember exactly what this was intended to do though.

Re: Warlock Question
That answered question 2 - Thanks.
Now as I recall, when a Warlock uses its blast when in melee, it triggers attacks of opportunity.
Back to question 1 - If by taking the feat improved unarmed strike- will it negate these attacks of opportunity when I blast folk within melee?

Re: Warlock Question
why not just take Hideous Blow and use a weapon if you want to be in melee? I don't know if improved unarmed would work for blasts in melee, but I do know melee warlocks, especially Warlock/R/DSM/SD do very well as HiPS melee builds. I really don't see how an RTA ability would work with improved unarmed strike.
Hope this helps.

Re: Warlock Question
Welcome to the world of warlocks.
I believe unarmed strike was added by kaedrin because of hideous blow and the fact that it does trigger on unarmed attacks. He might have wanted to give them unarmed damage without getting attack of opportunities because they have little weapon selection.

improved unharmed strike was added by kaedrin because of the deflect arrow bug :Akroma666 wrote:Welcome to the world of warlocks.

let me explain
if a char have the deflect arrow feat or a spell/item that grants it all the blasts a warlock launch will automatically fail if he have any type of weapon in hands
so if a warlock have to fight this type of enemy with blasts he have to be unharmed as a must but being unharmed without improved unharmed strike cause attacks of opportunity on each blast once the emery comes at melee range.
this bug is still active try to fight any monk and you'll see

Re: Warlock Question
Got beat to the punch but will post anyway :p
To my knowledge Improved Unarmed Strike was added because mobs with Deflect Arrows can't be hit by Ranged Touch Attacks without it. Trying will yield combat log results like
Name attempts to use ranged touch attack on Mob (19 + 8 = 27): ** instead of : hit, : critical hit or : miss. The gibberling chief is an example.
With IUS, and if you are unarmed, you can hit these mobs anyway.

What we see depends mainly on what we look for

Re: Warlock Question
Wow.
I know it has been clarified twice but just the sake of my OCD...
In order to hit anything with Deflect Arrows, I need to have the imp unarmed strike?
Will this bug cause me to miss every single time?
Monks just "deflect" my eldritch blasts?
Really?!

Re: Warlock Question
If you want to bypass Deflect Arrows no-selling RTAs, don't wield anything in your hands.
Improved Unarmed Strike is to prevent Attacks of Opportunity you get when you're blasting in melee range because the game considers you unarmed.
