banking system

Unread post by Young Werther »

Hey I got a ton of stuff on all my characters that I like to hold on to. Gems, memetos what have you. I'd be nice to have a bank to put it all in cause my inventory always is full on all my long term characters. And I'm not saying ban muling here, just cut out all the work from that and save me from server cerashes mid mule like happened to me once.

I think we may be considering a solution to this problem.

Persistent storage is in the pipeline, correct: http://bgtscc.net/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=53623

We have about 80% of the system in place, I think.

Great. Now hopefully everyone can discuss what they think it needs before it's implemented and it's a terrible thing.

For one this shouldn't be limited to one town/village and should fit everyone's role-play. I'd like it if there was a bank in the Auril Temple for members for instance. I bet Darkhold peeps would want their own bank similarly, ect. Like a deal where you buy space at one of their banks.

Perhaps if there was a *portable* expanded inventory system built into all characters accessible only when they can rest that would cover it.

Personally, I think there should be banks in several towns. Portable items that let you access stuff should exist too, but should cost gold.

I also think the system should be tied to the player account rather than the PC unless we are not going to change the muling rules. Players have their things all over different toons and it can be difficult to sort out all that stuff as it is in different places all at once. Cumulatively, more than thousands of hours have been spent collecting all the items that exist in player accounts and we aught to take that into consideration. This has effected the game economy and slightly over all balance. I would consider it a nerf to use the rules other servers use at this point in our game world history.

The RP argument against sharing items is a valid one, but player's invested time is one of the things that keeps this awesome place alive. I haven't looked into the new system yet, but I am strongly in favor of item sharing because in my mind my time spent makes the items mine rather than just the PCs I RP and we are not paying subscription services but rather donate to keep the player world functioning. This is also not a PnP campaign with special attention from the DM.

if banks are going to charge gold to hold items, then players will likely continue to mule for free. if muling is outlawed, i fear many will do it anyway, under a thin veil of rp

just a few things to consider :)

1000 gold is a lot by RP standards yet pocket lint to any of my characters.

I hope they don't put banks in guilds. That would incredibly unfair to all the guilds without it. I say Baldur's Gate, Shamath, and a third location in a more neutral surface site.

That's pretty much exactly what I came up with. There's also a guild storage system included in this (exactly what you don't want) but I'm not entirely certain how it works, yet. Private shared storage for a certain guild might be something we include down the road, but if we do, it'll likely become a standard feature of guild halls, since it can just be enabled with an NPC conversation (in other words, if your guild has an NPC in it, it can be enabled over the course of a single reset without much effort).

BG, Sshamath, FAI, and Soubar currently have storage available, but your character will access the same vault at all these locations. We might add some bankers to Beregost, Nashkel, and Corm Orp if demand for more locations is evident.

Hope you like it. :)
