Re: Community Feedback: Avernus Poll
If moved a central neutral location between the UD and Surface would be nice to mix things up. We had that on my old server.
But...
Going somewhere not only hard but interesting as the hells is exciting adventure. Not to mention I'd hate to see any area worked so hard on unused. I have two thoughts to make it work for everyone I think..
1) The plains hopping wizard you "just happen" to run in to selling goods gained in his travels. I voted that on the poll to change the NPC merchant ID.
2) The other hang up is why would someone go to hell willingly, most notably good aligned PCs? Answer: a RP-able event. This event is not meant to be solved, but to be used as a long lasting RP tool for a reason to travel/adventure in hell.
"Portals are opening up from the hells in to the Baldur's gate region, It behooves players to go there and look for it's source."
They never find this source, as it's only a reason to adventure there. Unless the DMs want to do something with it. The only point at which the portals are located -in full- and delt with unless the DMs decide to move the merchant sometime in the future. Said merchant being a plains hopping Wizard could show up anywhere after all
.
Good = Lets find them and stop it.
Evil = Search out it's source and find a way to use it to their advantage.
And anything in-between... It's bad for business, it's not "our evil people" don't like the coopetition, was scared by someone with red horns as a child, are board, etc...

I have no preference on any of the given options.
As stated in the other thread, I believe it should be moved to allow equal access for everyone, regardless of mechanical ability.

I'm with Stonebar. I don't see a point to NOT changing the current NPC to a planeswalker.Stonebar wrote:If moved a central neutral location between the UD and Surface would be nice to mix things up. We had that on my old server.

At the moment, the above options are what Tfunke's prepared to move forward with. I'll touch base with him to see if "moving the shop entirely" is a possibility, and if it is we can add that to the poll.Charraj wrote:I have no preference on any of the given options.

Shop should stay where it is. Change the vendor's appearance to a djinn or efreet or something like that if folks are RP afraid to bargain with a fiend.

Re: Community Feedback: Avernus Poll
A neat idea that Duster recommended staff side was to have DMs drop the shopkeeper NPCs in random locations around the server every now and again for mini-events (simply changing their appearance to a more reasonable one).
Then it'd be a pleasant surprise to stumble upon a traveling planeswalker or aasimar archmage every now and again as you're exploring the server.
This would be on DM time, though, and at their leisure, so it wouldn't be an "every reset" kind of deal. Just a thought in any case.

I voted option B, keep the location just change the NPC race. I like that it's a challenge

Re: Community Feedback: Avernus Poll
As of now, tfunke has opted to change the vendor type. It has not been mentioned if the location will be changing. That may be a separate poll. For now, please vote on the vendor appearance. If the poll sweeps, I can ask if he's willing to change the location.

I'm with Stonebar too, a traveling Wizard in place of the devil would do nicely.

Re: Community Feedback: Avernus Poll
Ok, so the predominant reason I have seen for this change in any thread is that a neutral NPC is needed to allow for good PCs to realistically interact... But no one has said this yet: As a player of at least one evil PC, why can't I just murder the shopkeeper and take all his money and inventory? Even if it took a party of ten there is more than enough to split.
The reason is that this is a game, and at times the mechanical limitations of it make themselves painfully apparent. This is one such case, there is only this shopkeep that has these items, he happens to be a devil; I can't murder or steal from him, and goodies have only him as an option to procure these items directly, everyone is dealing with some unrealistic, immersion-breaking realities in this situation.
So if a neutral shopkeep is added, I want the option to attempt to steal from him.

Interesting suggestion. Is that currently allowable to other NPC merchants? I had no clue...Boddynock wrote:Ok, so the predominant reason I have seen for this change in any thread is that a neutral NPC is needed to allow for good PCs to realistically interact... Re: Community Feedback: Avernus Poll
I still like my second idea as well, of a Faux event set by the DMs in rumor format to aid the goods in an RP reason to be there.
"Portals are opening up from the hells in to the Baldur's gate region, It behooves players to go there and look for it's source."
Or some such rumor. The plot does not need any actual DM involvement, it's only provided as a RP tool all can use as an excuse to be there. Even evil can use it, if only to find the power and use it for themselves, or because there's only room enough for X evil and these portals risk ruining that
Just gives an RP reason to go that with out the.. well it's there classic adventures line lol

I can't access the epic shop in BG in an IC manner. Please move it somewhere else.
Also, I can't access a clothing shop in an IC manner, please move Aiello outside of BG.
Also, Sorcerous Sundries.
Also, the northern merchant in the palace district.
Also, the mask shop.
Also, the seven suns.
Poor good aligned characters can't deal with a devil IC? Cry me a (do-me) river.
