Raise Server capacity to /85?
Greetings all.
What I've noticed recently, server very often hit 75/75.
And it run smooth at it! If no big event going. And not all people loiter in Nexus.
On the other hand, when big event is going on, it may lag bad even with 50 players - if most of them on the same area with NPCs too.
What I'm talking about, usually, with couple small events and player-driven events, it should support 85 alright.
So that is my proposition. At least try it.

Re: Raise Server capacity to /85?
you say it as if its a simple thing to just raise the number
while that part is, the server would still need to be able to even handle that many people without problems, not sure what this servers stress can handle or if there is an actual cap restriction as raising the cap may also raise cost
either way i wouldnt expect a whole lot

NO NO NO
If its ~6 hours up or longer, it is often is very unresponsive even with 50+ people on.

What I'm saying, it matters more what going on on server, not general numbers cap. It tumbles a lot with 50 people during day sometimes. And stable at 75.
Crash it someone at last, from looking of it a lot of people made macros to click on login, so once logged out - logged for good. Who dosen't trust me - try to relog
p.s. No joke, don't try it now. High probability you wouldn't get back.

It has been tried. The server gets unstable. This game was meant for like 10 people. The fact it handles 75 is a level 9 miracle spell calling upon both gond and tymora.

As something I notice.
Sometimes the server is at cap and I see two or three mules on for hours on. Do not know why someone needs their mule for that long. Maybe people forget to kick them.

Alright. I made it in. No need to raise the cap.

Re: Raise Server capacity to /85?
Until the source code is available and someone can work with it to fix the core issues, I doubt we will ever raise the bar. It is just too much to ask. I'm not sure there will be any real improvements at all in the next few years on single core performance on new CPUs, so, we are likely stuck here.

Re: Raise Server capacity to /85?
As of late, I find the Server nearly unplayable above 60 Players online. So by the uncaring uberness of Ao, please no.

The hardware is fine, the software still needs additional adjustments, the module could technically have script suppression mechanisms that'd help it along. The accelerator would assist in shortening computation times as well.Shad wrote:It got upgraded and optimized since.

Re: Raise Server capacity to /85?
I've also noticed issues in the evenings usually 6pm server time when the population goes above 60 i run into strange connection issues like the connection to me is being throttled, a relog fixes it for a few mins, resetting router and modem does nothing for me, so i doubt raising the cap would be too beneficial.
I play Medune I think? maybe? probably? I'm not really certain.
