you say it as if its a simple thing to just raise the number :P

while that part is, the server would still need to be able to even handle that many people without problems, not sure what this servers stress can handle or if there is an actual cap restriction as raising the cap may also raise cost

either way i wouldnt expect a whole lot

What about partitioning the server into two servers. Put half the server on one server the other half on another and making a cap limit for each one at 45? Put half the world on one and half the world on another and when you go from one half to the other half you would switch servers?

Put half the cap in the same location - like tournament - and its good it had but no NPCs - and it would lag like hell. Put them in different areas - and it would run smooth.

Btw I believe NWNx2 had special optimizations.so for big population in the same area. Possibly there is something like that in NWNx4.

We can temporarily raise the cap for large events and really busy days. But I don't know that we'd want to permanently raise the population cap: Every one additional player potentially threatens stability (and in a big way, because it's not just "one more player," it's 75+ connections that need to be considered when that player engages other players, DMs, and NPCs). At 75/75 we still crash semi-frequently (only occasionally making it to a full server reset these days).

It would be win mostly outside big events. Just on busy evenings where lots of small things goes on.

These days would be more frequent the closer we come to September 25, I believe.

What I've noticed recently, server very often hit 75/75.
And it run smooth at it! If no big event going. And not all people loiter in Nexus.

On the other hand, when big event is going on, it may lag bad even with 50 players - if most of them on the same area with NPCs too.

What I'm talking about, usually, with couple small events and player-driven events, it should support 85 alright.

So that is my proposition. At least try it.
Realistically, server starts feeling sluggish at 65. At 75, it is barely playable when you're not in "event location". At 88 I think it'll just keep crashing.

Also, normal unomptimized non-bgtscc neverwinter module usually starts having hiccsups at lower capcity.

The hardware is fine, the software still needs additional adjustments, the module could technically have script suppression mechanisms that'd help it along. The accelerator would assist in shortening computation times as well.
Exactly. It's like having a sportscar in a traffic jam. It gets you there no faster.

A partition is possible. Just donate lots of money. As they say "put up or shut up". It ain't cheap to run one server let alone two. Plus you have to ask our volunteer programmers really nicely to make it possible.

And a twin server would that be a bad idea?

As I understand it, it is possible to split up the world space over multiple servers, but that would raise costs.

A second server, hardware wise, nor addition to the hardware would be necessary to run a second nwserver. You can symbolicly link the module data and vault, running the second server process into a separate thread. NWNX4 also no longer uses older methods of hooking, which would've been prohibitive. The current server's resources are good enough to run two, possibly a third.

Cross information of the scry can be shared, and I can have an nwnx module made that allows chat to appear across both.

I wonder what difficulty would be posed for crashes/resets.

So in English, it means that it's completely possible? :P
