Jogarjoran, a friendly kobold and old friend of former Guide Valerius, was the center of attention within Candlekeep - just like he likes it!

A messenger arrived bearing a missive adressed for 'Warden Isabella Villame'. The scroll bore a red wax seal with the sigil of Doron Amar.

A old man with a freshly broken nose could be seen inside the library, requesting rather loudly to get copies of books in regards to seafaring, boats and even the language of sailors. He even went further to request simpler books, such as ones which gave you names of different ship parts and what their functions were.

He would later be seen booking a room at Candlekeep, his nose bleeding once more, cursing as he left the busy tavern room to go upstairs.

DM Dialectic wrote:*In another rare public announcement, the Keeper of the Tomes Ulraunt, flanked in the courtyard of the keep by the First Reader Tethtoril, states that Alexandra Keenan has been appointed to be the new Guide of Candlekeep, with the previous Guide taking up the position of Great Reader. The change is to be effectively immediately upon the announcement it is said.*

After receiving the symbol of office from Great Reader Laitae Lafreth, the newly appointed Guide of Candlekeep immediately makes herself available for any and all inquiries that require her attention. Over the course of the next few days, Alexandra responds to letters that were left in what is now her office and petitions made by those seeking library access.

(( Hello! :) I'll be combing through this thread and responding to recent letters / requests over the next several days.

I'm reachable via PM. I'm reachable on IRC. I'm reachable IG (although some times I'm at work, which I denote in my Scry status, so responses might be slow.) I'm reachable on Skype; just ask me for my name and I'll give it!

If anyone needs / wants RP with Candlekeep, then simply let me know and I'll get to it! ))

A old man would have been seen inside the library, grumbling as he held a letter in his hand, placing it inside the letter box there, the note would have been signed but left open without a seal so it could be read by anyone opening the box at a later stage. The man was then seen exciting, still grumbling about something...

The muffled din of a female voice weeping, wailing and lamenting profusely might have been heard in the soft echo of the quiet library-fortress, apparently coming from the crypt beneath the Temple of Oghma. It would continue for a great amount of time, three or four turnings of the hourglass, before it eventually quietened down and gave way to some impromptu elven poetry about dancing under the light and song of the eternal moon.

Some time later, an absolutely exhausted, almost emaciated blond-haired elfess wearing brown robes would be carried from the Oghmanyte shrine by a stronger blonde-haired elfess. She was given lodgings in Winthrop's Inn.

A festive celebration was held near Candlekeep! The surprise party, which was held to commemorate Alexandra Keenan's promotion to Guide as well as her twentieth nameday, drew a sizable crowd and lasted several candle-marks.

*A open letter left at the candlekeep inn with the Innkeeper, the name on it "Ashan, the friend I can trust" is visible on the parchment, the writing hastily done, not elaborate in the slightest*

Dear Ashan.

Thank you for letting the bard play that lovely song for me, I was thrilled to see how accurate he got the song, almost as if someone there told him about it.

I was hoping I could return the favour, I know your sweetheart works at the mask theater in Baldurs gate, maybe I can seek her out and make a similiar song about you? She does know you so well, so it should be easy to come up with something I bet.

I hope you are doing well in your new job.

*Signed*

On the sixth day of the month a Goliath of a man dressed in a loose fit of earth hued robes arrived at the libraries of Candlekeep. He might have been mistaken for a common pilgrim had not so fierce a blade been hanging from his sword belt.

As the hooded wanderer made for the inner sanctum he would have ignored the guard stationed on the door, but was promptly halted for trying. The door warden, after refusing the man entry, commanded that this stranger remove his scarf to show his face. Despite the fear in the Watcher's voice (automatic intimidate rolls DC 25 & DC 40 to allow refusal to remove face covering were passed by Boris), the stranger obeyed and drew down his scarf to reveal a distinctly Mulanese countenance. Kohl-lined eyes, a bulldog jaw, a broken nose and magical symbols of Pain and Fear carved with ink into his cheeks.

After a brief discussion of how the library may be entered, the man was re-directed to the message box. With a large but letter learned hand he scribbled a brief letter, submitted it, and departed.

"Hoppy bumps around at the entrance to the great library.. Great Guide's office? Great Guide's.." being ignored by several of the monks until she finds her way there on her own, leaving a letter addressed to Great Guide Laitae Lafreth, sealed with a petrified daisy.

Alexandra Keenan makes it known throughout Candlekeep that Ulraunt, Keeper of the Tomes, has officially sanctioned * changes to the way public access ** to the library archives will be handled from this point forward. All requests for admittance will now be processed by the Guide of Candlekeep.

A notice that explains the new policies is prominently displayed in the public foyer of the library.

Candlekeep Library Rules
Petitioners who seek library access must have a specific subject to research. Idle browsing of the library is not permitted.

Access is only granted for the duration of the approved research project. Once the project concludes, admittance must be obtained again in order to research a different topic.

Guests of the library will be escorted at all times by an Avowed of Candlekeep. All visits to the archives will be documented.

Guests of the library are not permitted to take notes or possess any writing implements while within the archives. All needed notations will be scribed by a member of Candlekeep.

Rude, disrespectful, or law-breaking behavior will result in the immediate and permanent revocation of access.
Library Admittance Methods
Method One: Submission of an Original Work

An 'original work' is a tome authored by either the person who seeks access to the library or a designated proxy. A submission must meet a minimum length requirement and adhere to the spelling and grammar guidelines of the language in which it is written. Any language is permissible as long as it can be verified and translated by an Avowed of Candlekeep.

Acceptable submissions include, but are not limited to: a detailed description of the events surrounding proposed research; historical accounts; interviews of notable figures. A visit with the Guide of Candlekeep is required before any submissions are accepted.

Up to a tenday may be required before library access is granted so that the submission can be read, verified, and properly catalogued.

OOC Notes:

use of the IG book system is strongly encouraged but not required
the minimum length requirement is around 750 words, which is approximately six full IG book pages or two Word Document pages
write in English only; denote any IG languages in [brackets] and provide translations if known

Method Two: Donation of a Rare Book

A 'rare book' is defined as one that is not already a part of the library. In certain situations, a better copy of book that is already in the archives may be accepted. A visit with the Guide of Candlekeep is required before any donations are accepted.

Up to a tenday may be required before library access is granted so that the submission can be read, verified, and properly catalogued.

OOC Notes:

only DM-granted books qualify
name of DM must be listed upon book

Method Three: Monetary Donation

The minimum donation amount is one-hundred bags. A visit with the Guide of Candlekeep is required before any donations are accepted.

Up to a tenday may be required before library access is granted so that the funds can be verified.
(( Please consider this to be an IC replacement for the foyer sign until it can be changed! ))

* These changes have been approved by the DMs.
** Access to the public scroll merchant is unchanged.
