Reduce prices on alchemy?

Unread post by Kagger911 »

Elixir of sending to make is 2100gp. We sell it for 2350gp and people still complain.

It's very enticing for me to be a master alchemist, but when you're trying to just make it to sell potions to people. It's very annoying when the prices stay that high even when we dump points into alchemy(33).

Edit: Fixed prices

to bad appraise doesn't lower the cost of production.

As RP wise, it be your character negotiating on raw parts and chemicals to get a lower price on production.

Anything that helps close the power gap between casters and warriors is good imo.

How'd you end up with 2k gold for a sending spell potions? It's not like it needs high caster level.

Per pnp rules it should cost 800 gp to craft. Caster Level 4 * Spell Level 4 * 50 gold pieces. Of course in pnp rules you also should pay 1/25 of that in xp (which would be 32 xp for sending potion).

It would be nice if they were a little cheaper. It's expensive to buy them from Maddy lol.

Sorry this is off topic. But quick question. If an elixir is made to 30 CL is it immune to dispels?

I'll butt in here since I have spent faaaaarrr too much time working these things out.
Every spell that is craftable (i.e. can be scribed, brewed, or wanded) has a minimum spell level that is often related to the minimum level required to cast it, but sometimes bears no relation at all. If you attempt to create the item with a lower caster level it is automatically bumped to the minimum (and for a couple of spells there appears to be a maximum as well).
Sometimes it seems to be for balance reasons, on other occasions it just seems random.
In the case of Sending, which has a spell level of 5 one might expect a minimum caster level of 9... you'd be wrong. It's 12. So the final price looks like:
50 x 5 (spell level) x 12 (caster level) x 0.7 (Master Alchemist) = 2100
Hope that makes more sense.

Rule #313: Snake oil? Snake oil! This isn't snake oil. This is 2100gp 3000gp in a bottle!

Rule #314: Bribing the admins to reduce production costs = profit!

Exceedingly so. Is there any use getting brew potions if you are not getting master alchemist? I would think wands are superior in that.

You mean alchemy still uses neverwinter 2 insanity when it comes to potions default caster level?

Wands require UMD. Potions don't require UMD, and anyone can use them.
