Suggestions for tabletop d&d real life 'items'.

Unread post by Passiflora »

Hi all!

Just wondering, does anyone know a website that sells D&D items/decoration someone should get for weekly games?

And if you have suggetions of items as well, that'd be awesome. I'm looking for inspiration. :D

I'm trying to turn one of my house's large room into d&d/gaming room. Got the projector for Fantasy-ground and the consoles, the special tables and stuff. I'm looking for ideas like.. the 'bag of holding' as an example.

https://www.amazon.ca/Wiz-Dice-Bag-Hold ... of+holding

Thanks!

Pretty sure there's a website out there that will 3D print whatever you want, figurines, map structures etc. I know the link is lurking on these forums somewhere and one of the more clueier P&P folks prolly knows what it is and can post more details below.

Our GM kept mead, various kinds of cheeses and cold sauages as well as bread, we'd eat those whenever the party made a stop to a tavern or made camp, it was great.

Treasure chest. When an adventure ends you can leave items representing in game loot inside. Or just fill it with chocolate coins.

+1
I did the same, Only sometimes the players went OOC and finished all the beer & sausages before getting to the tavern. :P

This product is great for the DM with money to burn,

and for the MacGyver DM with time to burn,

If you do not have endless money or time to spend. I would recommend not to underestimate the power of sound and lighting. A cheap cd player or mp3 player with a remote for ambient sound on command is all you need. It is also easy to find candleholders and lanterns from yards sales or thrift stores that have a great old look to them.

I really need to find a pnp game.

How about a copy of the D&D movie to threaten your players with if they question your dming.

Tempting. :D

For now I bought a Bag of Holding with 12 set of dices, a pack of Tarokka deck for card-reading, a 3 feet tall knight in armor as decoration, and I took out my set of full plate to put on one of my wall instead of in the locker.

As for the lighting and music, we gave up on candles as we almost put fire once. I installed 'cinema lights' in my livingroom and I have a house cinema to show pictures of beasts they face and for the sound effects.

I'm now wondering about those neat 3d grids :D

We often used a dry erase board table that we made grid marks in with a permanent marker.

1. A dry erase battle mat that is double sided. Hexes and grid

2. Pick up a little dry erase board for iniative or buy an iniative tracker. Paizo makes a great one.

3. Miniatures , I like to get em in bulk off eBay, conventions or miniature market or troll and toad

4. Get some kind of tokens for inspiration or other in game effect that rewarda creativeness and good rp.

5. If you want to go all out then pick up some battle maps that are dry erase and are map terrains already

So this was my idea, I used a whiteboard with washers and magnets.
Buy 1 inch diameter washers with a small hole:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004X ... UTF8&psc=1
Get a one inch circular hole punch:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000O ... UTF8&psc=1
Print pictures of your party, NPCs, and monsters. I used 5x7 advertising holders:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00TH ... UTF8&psc=1
From there, your printed pictures are shown on the literature holders, print to sets of pictures of all the faces of all your characters, monsters, and NPCs in addition to the 5x7s. Cut the faces out, mount on the washers, use magnets to form a quick initive order on the board and player battle map. You can also see an avatar for everyone in the party, who you're taking to, or who you are fighting. Its a lot of work up front, but my players live the visuals and ease of use once its done.

  • pictures of npcs and significant items. usually found on the internet and printed out beforehand
  • 3d sketches and sometimes 3d models for complex areas
  • music. both finding an into and ending song to set the tone and frame the session, and ambient mood music
  • metal FR coins as drama/action points
