Builders-monk-rogue
Looking to build a perfect two weapon fighting, kama monk, with either the feat hide in shadows or hips. Needs Epic dodge, will also have arterial strike, and if I can fit it in, flensing strike.
This is an RCR of my toon Misara, moon elf. So, no worries about xp penalties.
Thanks

Re: Builders-monk-rogue
I have a build you can use, but I can't get on NWN2DB from work so may not be able to post it for you until tonight or tomorrow morning (right after work I coach pee-wee football so probably tomorrow.) In the mean time, if you want to give it a go yourself the class split is R13/M11/SD3/WD3. You basically lose Assassin death attack, but gain epic dodge. WD also allows you to take SF: MS/Hide and one other SF feat making the cost of SD more easy to stomach. It is less offensive focused then the standard R10/M11/A9, but makes up for it by gaining epic dodge. Good luck!Fragglerock wrote:Looking to build a perfect two weapon fighting, kama monk, with either the feat hide in shadows or hips. Thank you will think on it, Also needs expose weakness. Basically she just want to land as many sneaks as possible with detrimental effects..ie--EW,Arterial,Flensing, and whatever goodies I can get on my kamas.

Re: Builders-monk-rogue
that build still gets expose weakness as well as epic precision. You do need to be a tiefling or a human to avoid xp penalty and tiefling is by far the better choice (or you could be a hin, but then I think you have to use a dagger in the offhand instead of kama.)

Re: Builders-monk-rogue
still gets DEX bonus so that works and RCR so no XP penalty which is nice. If you can wait I will post a link as soon as possible, but essentially you take R/M levels somewhat alternating, SD 1 ASAP, as well as WD, at level 21 I think it is something like R9/M5/SD3/WD3, then you take R10 your next feat level to take critical strike/epic precision, then more Monk levels. Taking most of the monk levels in mid to late epics, but making sure to hit R13 at level your last feat level so you can take prereq and epic dodge.

Re: Builders-monk-rogue
You can also do it that way : http://nwn2db.com/build/?145069
Except you drop skill focus move silently and blind-fight to get both arterial and flensing strike.
It needs a +2 DEX race but otherwise anything goes, moon elf is fine ! It does not get epic precision though.

Re: Builders-monk-rogue
If you go for SA dice, dont go for more than 3 levels of monk.
If you dont go for SA then you can invest more depending on the build.
The best build i played with SA is Rogue16/Monk3/A8/Bodyguard3. A lot of SA dice, 5 attacks on the first flurry, much speed, decent saves and ac for a rogue. This build slays. The downside? Hips at 30...
There are many different ways you can build a non SA kama monk. F12 is a good start. Going for SB5 + combat insight for double the int damage. Those builds do not even need hips since they have good AC/HP. If you go for hips, consider an peic dodge build.

Re: Builders-monk-rogue
My advice is to start with your RP concept and go from there. If your character is more about sneak attack/going for the kill either R16/A9/M5, R16/A8/M3/X3 or R10/A9/M11. If you want the epic dodge, more defensive monk with some SA R13/M11/SD3/WD3 is a good build. 8d6 SA dice (7 rogue + 1 WD iirc), 4d6 agains sneak/crit immunes gives you decent damage. Greater Flurry with PTWF gives you 12 APR (4 in the first flurry, I believe) and 4 of your attacks are at the highest AB. Your stealth scores will be very good, especially if you can fit Stealthy in as well or have an item that grants it and you will have fairly high AC for a sneaker as well as great defenses with Hips and Epic Dodge.
Again, think about your character and the back story and decide if you want high AC, more attacks, more sneak damage, as well as how 'monkish' you really want to be. (there is nothing wrong with M25/SD5 for a HiPS monk with epic dodge and no sneak attack damage, after all). The really cool thing about the monk class, which I feel is somewhat unique is that there are very good reasons to stop at various different levels. Most base classes have a 'sweet spot' or tend to either be better dip classes or better pure... Monk is really cool because it makes perfect sense as a dip, but is equally perfect going for 5 or 6 levels, 11, 16, or max levels. It really is a very versatile base class that fits well in many build concepts.

Dex built rogues are better off without monk levels.

Re: Builders-monk-rogue
I would argue that, while the rogue without monk levels has more sneak dice, the monk levels add an additional sneak attack because of how attack flurry's work. In many cases the additional sneak dice will out damage the extra attack, but a roguish monk is a perfectly viable build if not 'optimum'.Storm Munin wrote:Dex built rogues are better off without monk levels.

I don't need to be optimum, I love sneaks and monks. There are lots of skills and special perks with those two clases. Like I said I just want to get off like 14 APR and hit on like 6 with debilitating effects. Sort of like a melee dot machine

Re: Builders-monk-rogue
You aren't going to hit 14 apr with a SA monk as that would require 6 APR (26 BAB), GTWF (12), and either greater flurry (14) or flurry + haste. With a SA Monk you are aiming for 5 APR + 5 (GTWF) + 1 (Flurry) + 1 (hasted) = 12 with more SA dice OR Greater Flurry, which gives 13 with haste at cost of SA dice.Fragglerock wrote:I don't need to be optimum, I love sneaks and monks.
