Looking for quick/simple tiefling dex bard build

Unread post by NegInfinity »

I'm looking for a quick/simple tiefling crossbowman dex bard build, if anyone has the time.

I've found dex bard build by zannej:
http://nwn2db.com/build/?206218

Which seems to be alright, except I'm fairly sure it won't be able to cast level 9 spells, ever, and it doesn't have manyshot (then again, manyshot with +30 attack might not be the best idea).

I'm not looking for a maximum power build that can kill dragons by sneezing at them, something that is reasonably playable would be good enough for me, bard 30 would probably be the best.

Spell suggestions wouldn't hurt either, although I suspect I have rough idea of what it would need.

Bards only get level 6 spells, so 16 modified CHA is all you need...
For spells you'll want the inspire courage at first level, mirror image, cats grace (can be replaced with nixies later), displacement, haste, (greater) heroism, shadow conjuration, ethereal visage, energy immunity, energy buffer, superior resistance.

Doh (facepalm). Never played one before, so I didn't know.

Either way.
The build seems to be good for me, am I missing anything? Excpet that a tiefling would start with different stats. (something like str 12/dex 18/con 10/int 16/wis 8/cha 14)... and I'll almost certainly pick different set of skills for the character.

Tiefling has -2 CHA so you might be better going for 13 with a +3 item.

Good point. Those items are a bit hard to come by, though. Then again, I think bard gets inspire regeneration, so he wouldn't need a regen cloak.

Let' face it, Tiefling is a poor choice for a Bard. Maybe something else with Fiendish Heritage?

Best build is Bd26/F4 for WS & RWM. Tiefling gets an XP Pen though.

I know it is not a good choice, and fiendish heritage is not quite the same thing. At the moment i'm thinking about just throwing character on the server and see how it goes from there.

Hmm. I remember playing a tiefling with xp penalty, it was pretty bad.

They do get rogue as favored class though... but I don't think there's anything fun that can be done with that aside from maybe grabbing evasion.

Yes, bards have Inspire Regeneration, but you will do much better with Inspire Courage, which adds bonus to attack and extra magic damage (which crits too!). So I would definetly take a regen cloak and sing a Inspire Courage song ;)

These spells Chad mentiones are the must for a bard (maybe Bull's too, althoug being a dexer). I would only add that the 1st lvl one, Inspirational Boost, which adds a +1 bonus to your Inspire Courage songs has a "trick" to work. You have to cast it before singing or it will do nothing.

I like to pick Heartfire spell too. So you don't need Blindfight feat.

Maybe 4 levels dip into Rogue with Practiced Spellcaster (Bard)? You would get Evasion and Uncabby Dodge .
Myrualae - Chantress of Doron Amar
Snow - Sorcery and carrots!
Gomez de Aguirre - The Fabulous Knight of the Mystic Fire
Uelaereene Sai'zzel - Once I saw the stars...
Lilly Sai'zzel - Stormy snowflake
And more...

Thanks for the info. The spells you suggested are roughly similar to recommended choices in other threads.

I've considered rogue dip, but in the end I think it might not be a very good idea due to the build relying on a crossbow. Crossbow sniper is feat heavy crossbow bard can't get "sniper/master".

I could consider different ranged weapon, though. But slings are more suitable for halflings and shortbow doesn't look that great... although I might be wrong about it.

The char is level 6 at the moment, so I can try experimenting with different approaches for a while.

Maybe something like that if you stay on crossbow ?

http://nwn2db.com/build/?252067

I skipped curse song because it has a short radius and I don't think it's a good idea to stay in melee range with a ranged character.

Hmm.. Skipping curse song is a very interesting idea. Thanks for the suggestion.
