Evasion and armor

Unread post by Valefort »

I suggest to not give the benefits of evasion when the character is using medium or heavy armor.

Seems to be in line with pnp rules:
Evasion (Ex)
At 2nd level and higher, a rogue can avoid even magical and unusual attacks with great agility. If she makes a successful Reflex saving throw against an attack that normally deals half damage on a successful save, she instead takes no damage. Evasion can be used only if the rogue is wearing light armor or no armor. A helpless rogue does not gain the benefit of evasion.

If so can we introduce feats that allow for its use in medium armor? I mean for me this just further pidgeon holes builds. I get the need by older players to go back to the glory days of PnP D&D but remember with each fix like this it drives away newer players and younger gamers who are not as rule intensive in a game.

Can we add it in where a helpless rogue gets no evasion?

Hahaha. Well I think status effects like Stunned or Grappled or knockdown would be what disables Evasion, wouldn't it? At least not yet mechanicly but status effects which stop you from moving away should be considered.

Agree as well. Maybe evasion could be reduced to 20% for medium and 10% for heavy armours.

Do people who wear heavy armor actually see a benefit from evasion? Like do they even get Dex to make saves?

I think this is aimed at Mith FP users and a certain HIGH SAVES ALL class........So yes one class can dip rogue and still use heavy armor and get the benefit of enough Reflex save to have Evasion work regularly.

FS, Bard, Cleric, etc... they get all their saves really high and with a dip (or domain) can have evasion. So yeah, there are builds that use medium/heavy armor, but still have high reflex saves.

It's not just FS grabbing R3... You could also have Paladin 26/Monk 4, for instance. There are many builds that can get evasion and will use medium / heavy armor (and not everyone has mithral full plate, in any case)

I think a tower shield should allow for evasion if they have it.

This is going to be a hard one for the community.......

Could we at least make it not work in heavy armor? Medium armor could be considered light enough for it. Maybe? Of course Mith BP is much easier to find..........and is only 1 AC less.....You just got to have waaaaay more Dex is all....
