Altough I would like to point out the fact, that even if it "balanced" in a mechanical sense, the RP problems still firmly stand.

I like the idea a lot.

Tough to play though with all the good guys out there such as our paladins/clerics I imagine.

Would probably need like the UD a place to level/gather and not be disturbed 24/7 by undead hunters...

That's ok that's up to the player to rp out and creative uses of disguise and bluff. We aren't talking 600 year old vampire lords here. Heck could even be half bloods. Nothing to say they can't be "blade".

I think we all agree players won't be playing Strahd for the obvious reasons. This should make everyone happy and have things balanced.

Want to play one? Gp ahead but you'll have the ups and downs that come with it. I think ligjt sensitivity and positive and negative are pretty good factors to consider playing one.

Imagine your buddy casting heal in you! Ouch.

NegInfinity wrote:To continue my earlier post, I think on bgtscc player vampires could pretty much be only suitable for DM events.

Meaning if a DM starts an event, they could try to recruit few players to play several monsters in the event, and they wouldn't be allowed to use them anywhere else.

Only in this kind of situation.

As a free-roaming character those kind of creatures will get destroyed by the nearest paladin/cleric/wizard/whatever.

Now this idea is a very good one.

I would personally like to see more monster races like the mentioned kolbolds, goblins, ogers, etc..

I really would like to see a small faction subset that had every current neutral NPC such as flaming fist guards set to hostile. At the same time, have their NPC merchants set to allied for them, but hostile to all others. Make them have a small little cave or tunnel. Just be cool to have a PvP flagged race vs all others that had no "you broke the rules of PvP because xyz."

Also a simple non ecl race with +2 charisma for once would be nice. Shoot make it a human variant for all I care.

It's usually not advertised. But it has happened. I know of at the very least two instances of it happening during my time as DM.

Monster races are a generally bad idea. Even if you set them to being KoS, they will be built and played in a way that makes them attract PvP and when they expect it like that they will win or otherwise be undefeatable every time. It's just going to cause grief.

But that's just in regards to PvP.

It's also not even remotely appropriate, for reasons TheLier already have pointed at: It's not that RP isn't enforced (though I agree it seems like it isn't sometimes), it's the fact that enforcing RP isn't very fun for the DMs - and they are volunteers. It's also not easy to do, even if it was fun. And with that being a problem, there is no realistic way of letting players have access to monster races without constantly breaking immersion. The orcs are already receiving criticism for this stuff. Additional and more radical monster races is just going to make that worse, I'm afraid.

EDIT:
There are perhaps some other races that could be added, though, if people are interested:
I could see fey'ri working in some cases (or celdarin). Forest gnomes as well.

I used to play on a NWN2 server with PC vampires - Sundren. While I had some great fun and character development involving the PC vampires, I ultimately had to powerbuild and had extra DM-granted feats just so that my PC could counter the vampires. My paladin cohorts had special builds, too.

Ultimately, when the server ended that era and went into development for a new era, it was decided that PC vampires would not be a thing again. ECL +8 is just way too powerful, and even on Sundren, where RP was heavy and enforced, there were still squabbles over crossing rivers, mirrors, garlic, and everything in-between.

All-in-all, PC Vampires looks great on paper, but I do not see anything but trouble stemming from their implementation on BG.

If we're to add new races, I'd much prefer it to be goblin or another Orc subrace. It would add another dimension to the whole tribal RP and would be much more acceptable than vampires. Orcs got a good thing going with their Warband, the areas are already in place and this would help them further.

Drow, a significant investment historically on BGTSCC, still has issues on surface interaction that we haven't gotten past.

We had a lot of complaints on the staff side over it, including the removal of one DM.

For UD roleplay, Tzabrak anyone, it would be feasable I suppose but like it has already been mentioned the experience would be very restricted by various factors.
To the point of no fun anyway arguably.

Allowing it would also open the field for righteous demands to be able to play other dnd templates such as halffiend, fiend, halfdragon, trickster, Chosen e t c.

Plausible, but what would the true benefit be?

if I am not entirely off mark the city of dark weaving bazaar already offers the necessary trinkets to survive dastardly brightness conditions as well.

As for adventuring, well wouldnt a vampire be strong enough to drag around the coffin with him/her? Given its a poor vampire with no bag of holding.
A simple desecration ritual on the ground and a late sunrise snack when it is time to recuperate, cackle gleefully over new shinies and plot the next step to world domination?
