Suggestion: Items and feats to qualify for spells and PRC's
I'd like to suggest:
-Not allowing items to be calculated towards the base attribute scores to cast spells of a certain level.
-Hellfire Warlocks being unable to "swap out" the Brimstone or Hellrime Blast PRC requirement once the first level of the PRC is taken.

This shouldn't be possible at the moment, if it is that's an exploit to be reported.

I didn't want to publish an exploit but I know it's been reported so I removed it. Thanks Vale!Valefort wrote:-*Edited*

But also, this:

I think he means not allowing a +3 int item to cast 7 8 9 lvl spells on a 16int buildValefort wrote:-Not allowing items with feats to qualify for PRC's.

Ah just that ! Otherwise I imagine plenty of builds made with equipping items and using spells to get the required feats before leveling

No it's not this, m3nt. It's using a +stat item to qualify for said PRC in the first place, as per the above quotation about Hierophant (and similarly Archmage, the only two PRCs that ought to require a minimum base, unmodified casting stat of 17 to qualify for them).mrm3ntalist wrote:I think he means not allowing a +3 int item to cast 7 8 9 lvl spells on a 16int build

Re: Suggestion: Items and feats to qualify for spells and PR
The PRCs requirement is being able to cast 7th level spells. It doesnt say anything about having 17INT or CHA. The fact that you can qualify for this, is not the +3 ability item, but the mechanics that allow to cast a spell from a level, higher than your base casting ability should allow.Tsidkenu wrote:No it's not this, m3nt. While I disagree with the first, as there is no basis for it in NWN2 or PnP. I partially agree with the second. People SHOULD be able to switch out a qualifying feat (invocation) but should not be able to continue leveling the PrC if they have done so. The requirements for the PrC should be met every time you take a level in it, not just at level one.Kauaiian wrote:I'd like to suggest:

Re: Suggestion: Items and feats to qualify for spells and PR
I actually like the idea of casters needing a base score to cast that level spell. It is a relatively minor nerf for all gishes (arcane and divine) that certainly doesn't cripple them... STR bards needing 16 CHA instead of 13 or FS needing 19 instead of 16 brings down there other attributes a bit, but they'll still be way ahead of non-caster melee's in survivability. With how much any caster can do to improve their performance this would make building melee characters a little more attractive.

Agreed natural ability score should be at a minimum of what the PrC is calling for for the spell level requirement. Otherwise that seems like a pretty blatant exploit of nwn2 mechanics.
That would never fly on a pnp game. However not sure if there's a way to change that. It's nwn2 engine and how it reads abilities toed to casting spells.

Actually. I believe in pnp when you dig super deep it states that you must have the base stat for the spell. Stat boosting items can only add to bonus spells per day for having a higher stat. So if you don't have the base. It doesn't matter how much bonus you get, you just do not have access.
It's not like your holding your +2 int sword while your trying to prepare spells. A long process which can take hours.
While nwn2 was designed to allow items to take you above casting levels your normal stats would allow.
The server could benefit greatly from this change, making some more unquie builds. Focused builds. Interesting rp. And maybe chip a bit at the power balance being bringing everything closer together. No one gets broken by this change they just arnt 100 percent min max anymore.
So in regards to prc I don't think anyone disagrees with the above original poster.
Though I just made a caster who was counting on int items to cast 7th level.
