Demoralize opponent

Unread post by NegInfinity »

Would be nice to have this.
Demoralize Opponent
You can also use Intimidate to weaken an opponent’s resolve in combat. To do so, make an Intimidate check opposed by the target’s modified level check (see above). If you win, the target becomes shaken for 1 round. A shaken character takes a -2 penalty on attack rolls, ability checks, and saving throws. You can intimidate only an opponent that you threaten in melee combat and that can see you.
Check:
Your Intimidate check is opposed by the target’s modified level check (1d20 + character level or Hit Dice + target’s Wisdom bonus [if any] + target’s modifiers on saves against fear).

I like the idea to have skills more impact mechanically, like, for example, bluff is used for feint checks.
But the check mechanics need revising for compliance with online game reality, because the way its described by pnp, on bgtscc it would be auto success most times it is used, with exceptions for paladins, where it would be auto failure.

Err, no.

Read the check carefully - it takes character level/HD into account.

With 30 ranks in intimidate, you have hard time indimidating ANY level 30 character.
Assuming the target has 10 wisdom and no bonuses, you'll be rolling d20 against their d20, pretty much.

And of course, as a miighty level 1 character your chance of demoralizing anyone who's much more experienced than you will be zero.

Strange I should explain.
As a level 1 character now one can have 5-10 "own" intimidate and due to recent ILR waive
equip ~+20 or more skill gear, no buffs, and go to FAI and start bulling level 30th, who in their lot never bother to have vs fear bonuses and use to have Wisdom 10, with decent chance.

But who would Use it would actually be mid-level but, like ones who use Feint, make check at least at 60-70+, so almost none would be able to resist it, even in theory, but immune ones.

What may make check work not like 0......1, is skill vs skill. Maybe.

It is a combat feat. Demoralize or no demoralize, the level 1 still goes "splat" in this scenario.
