Shifter?

Unread post by NegInfinity »

Are there any news about Shifter class?

http://bgtscc.wikia.com/wiki/Shifter

I'ts been sitting in the wiki for quite some time. And it would be fun to play too. The wikie has Rasael's comment about it "being mostly done". The comment was left back in 2014.

This is from what I have observed and it may not be entirely accurate:

I do not think PrC passed balance review. Other things were prioritized and then some major changes to the team in general came about leaving this PrC to sit.

The best that can happen is a new discussion, but this is not the place for our particular one. I hope I was able to answer your question.

So... realistcally speaking.

What would be necessary to make the PrC happen?

We did get Techsmith's of Gond and Alchemists, after all.

I gotta say that Rasael's shifter is quite different from the one in Master's of the Wild... but then again, version from Master's of the wild is most likely incredibly overpowered for bgtscc.

My personal opinion is that some stats may need to be tweaked down. Some of the feats may need to be adjusted too. I cannot really speak on behalf of QC on this issue though.

I get impression that the main source of the delay could be those steadily increasing stats for the shifter.

Perhaps the class could be approached differently?

As far as I can tell, shapes used by original shifter class didn't get stat increases along with shifter's progression (well, aside from hitpoints). However, the shifter could only transform into a creature of a of similar or lower HD.

Instead of that it could be possible to allow shifter to polymorph into array of preset creatures which don't get stronger with shifter's level. Kinda similar to what summon monster spells do now - you get a popup with options, and options are filtered based on character's HD and available wildshape feats.

I've seen these sorts of comments before and my mind has always sprung to wonder if it's advantageous to add classes in a mechanically quite weak state and then aim to tune them over time rather than the reverse? I doubt i'm the first to suggest that though, i'm just wondering what a member of QCs thoughts are on that?

It has been something that is discussed, but here is the problem:

There is ALWAYS more content to review and get in and there has to be a developer that wants to work on something. Base classes and PRC's do get worked on after implementation, but the goal is never to require more work after implementation. In addition every suggestion must be discussed, considered and determined how it impacts the rest of the class and any other classes that a player might build with..

We always have to remember that time is a very limited commodity for discussing, coding, implementing, testing, modifying, retesting, etc. hence why most changes take more time then we'd all like and have to be prioritized. Also why some older content has never resurfaced for review, because there are bug fixes, re-balancing changes to implement and other modifications that need to be done based on previously implemented content.

I hope this explains some of the difficulties, as I have had a few people mention in game about the (continued) lack of enchanting/crafting being implemented as well as some other things that folks would like to see in and have been on the backburner. We all do our best, but in general there is always more requests than there is time / resources available.
