Yuan-ti Queen Auto Kill

Unread post by Aurali »

So during fights with the yuan-ti queen, I have died twice now without any explanation in the combat log. No casting of a spell or anything. Also, I had death ward on which should protect against instant kill effects. Also, the death counter doesn't show a monster kill either. I can post screen shots but it just says "Yuan-ti Queen killed Zya Ananshael" without any spell, saving throw, or anything. Also, after speaking to Myrkul, it still doesn't send anyone to FAI.

She's casting Weird, there is a save, two actually. First a will, then a fort. If you fail both, you die. The first save it the only one that shows in the log.

Also saw in the combat log earlier in the fight she cast entropic husk and I failed the save but it said I was immune to mind effects and nothing happened. Is there a delay on this spell killing you? Like it puts a debug on you even if you are supposed to be immune and when it wears off you die? I also seem to roll a lot of 1s on those saves (which is conveniently 1 below my saving throw).

So I read on the wiki of the entropic husk spell and it states that if you fail the mind save even if you have immunity to mind effects that you die 20 rounds later after the debuff wears off.

This is correct. The Yuan Ti queen requires some foreknowledge and planning to solo, and without very specific builds I would not do so. One tactic is to cast or use a wand of silence on the ground at her feat then rush her. Even with bards, losing your requiem song against her is preferable to getting hit with save or x spells unless you have very good protections against them (such as steadfast determination and high fort saves, very high will saves, etc.) You can of course also try to bum rush her with some kind of sanctuary effect and hope for the best, but it's not recommended. You could also get a wand of least mantle to absorb the first spell cast and if you do enough damage you may be able to interrupt future spell casting.

edit: so I guess "very specific" is not really accurate... More as in, someone with the right potions/wands or spells available to them. :)

I usually have no issues soloing her at all. Just happened to roll a 1 which was 1 less than I needed. I'll have to find another will bonus somewhere. And I usually use least spell mantle wands for the flesh to stone spell. I just find it odd that you may be immune to mind effects and yet still die.

The biggest issue in soloing her is the addition of a damage shield she has. Need to use some healing kits or run her around the room until it wears off.

Fair enough, the nwn RNG pretty much ensures you'll roll more 1's then you should, unfortunately.
