The great axe i have works. I would wager that the rapier you tried it with may have had the appearance changed, which breaks the script.
I bought Paws' halberd from the auction house (someone resold it! Woot!) which had the partially working script. (+1 shield AC). I will test it again tonight. I didn't see the script fire for the Gondsman last time though. The +3 +4 weapons did.
Have any other start increasing weapons been tested? I can't equip a +STR warmace to test (for some reason he can't reliably equip warmaces... Strange).

Let me know if you try anything along those lines, and I will do the same.
I am pretty sure Steve is right though, I think the axe that I currently have on Wiz's gondsmen is Deflection AC, not the Shield AC script.
Yeah, the deflection should work. +x weapons work. Elemental damage works.
Due to the nature of the shield ac script, I doubt that will work and it did not appear to work when I tried it on mine.

I can manage deflection fine as a divine caster, and that is the only kind of armor you can get on a weapon.
I'd like to point out that after spending the money on a Bloodletter, I can point out that a weapon with a vampiric enchant does NOTHING at all for the gondsman. He doesn't heal with the strikes.
And yes, He is great pre-epic, but useless on epic levels without UMD buff combo. If you can UMD him up, he can take some hits, but that is not the case for most of us.
The class is great RP, and I love playing my techsmith for that reason, but sadly, yes, mechanically, it's not so great.
I tried to build something that might work even without other party members - at least until the gondsman gets dispelled. The techsmith is a decent melee cleric as well, though, and its divine spells are undispellable.
I've never played a techsmith: can you unsummon the gondsman when it becomes endangered? What happens if it gets destroyed? Can you just resummon it after resting?
Maybe its possible to get damage reduction and regen to this thing with upgrade points? As it most probably is crit immune, getting high DR would make it great tank regardless of AC.
Also, does Regeneration spell work on it? For I think its most great divine spell at all for grinding.

Gondsman breath weapon is a terrible idea, I've rarely seen it used on a foe target within range and when it does work it is always on a friendly party member...
