I have been thinking about this situation with Mister D (My nickname for the Dtosser), he can only attack if he has the servers I.P address so I .have thought of a possible though temporary soulution:
1. Change the servers I.P address but have it hidden from the forum and hidden from third party websites (somehow, if even possible), The I.P would have to be one not used before for the server so it can't be guessed.
2. People who wish to use the server will have to PM a member of the DM staff in order to recieve the I.P adress, Once recieved they should write it down on a piece of paper and delete the PM containing the I.P address (just incase this guy/girl knows how to hack). Additionally put a password on the server (though this will likely do little).

The problem is, this is no way guaranteed to work, would be quite a lot of work and it would mean that we have little to no new players. But surely that is better than having no players.

Like a similar proposal, I don't think this will works as I am betting Mister D is a member of the forums, and logs in and reads this thread and others about the attacks regularly. It's what I would do.

Or the host could be configured to use proper packet filtering instead.

Useless the moment the upstream is saturated, which is why ddos is effective. You're better off rotating ipv6 tunnels on a separate connection to the server which is what most of the big players are doing these days.

This capitalizes in static content, like cached web pages. Unusable in our scenario.

There were actually people around the merchant in the Eastern Farmlands. I was getting my RP fix!

I guess the main RP zone has shifted to the Friendly Arm since I last played on this server. Seems every time I scry that's where everyone is.

There was a time they always gathered at the Merchant Camp at the end of the bridge leading south from the Gate. Seems that low-level characters are kind of cut off from the RP without a means of getting to the FAI on our own. :-\
