Re: Bear Warrior
I have to agree with the PA/IPA comments. That is the only damage my barbarian has aside from strength. In reality, he does ok damage even barehanded because of his strength and PA/IPA. Base damage matters little in strength builds typically as the vast majority of the damage comes from the strength and power attack. Also nothing wrong with wielding a weapon and just "throwing it down" before you become a bear. Does anyone know if you can activate pa/ipa when in bear form?

Yes, you can activate any combat mode, PA, IPA, CE etc

Re: Bear Warrior
In that case I would think pa/ipa would be essential to a bear warrior much like any 2h barb or fighter build. If the bear form has enough ac then it should solve much of the damage concern both in and out of rage.

Re: Bear Warrior
PA is in the build, would give an additional +3 to the numbers listed above, forgot to turn it on during the screen shot. My bad.
I feel all builds have a means to get damage bonuses;
Rogues: sneak
Monks: unarmed progression/flurry
Cleric/Wiz/Paladin: spells
Ranger: fighting style/spells
Barbarian (pure): Weapon selection, feats, and rage
Fighter: feats/weapons
Now Bear warrior gets.. Rage.. thats it. Everything is dependent on you staying in bear form, which limits your RP, healing ability, and combat options. You basically become a meat wall of slow regen.
What would be so horrible if the claw progression carried over in human form? Sort of a werebear type thing on just your hands? So as quoted form the wiki:
http://bgtscc.wikia.com/wiki/Bear_Warrior
You hands would deal:
Level 2: 1d4
Level 6: 2d4
Level 9: 2d6
This would change the 1d3 to +1 possible cap at 2, +1 min/+5 max at 6, and +1min/+9 max at 9. I would even argue to change the level 2 to 1d6 since you cant take bear warrior till a minimum of level 8.
Also, a key feature would be the ability to allow glove enhancements to carry over to bear.. as they dont get flame weapon they need those fire or acid gloves to kill trolls.

Re: Bear Warrior
As was said before, just use a weapon. You are a barbarian, that can change into a bear (which grants you a stronger rage at earlier level), but he still has his normal rage - use that for the trolls.
I agree, that EB from gloves should transfer in bear form.
Maybe just add 1 acid damage to the bite attack.
and
increase the basic (unraged) fist damage from d3 to d10 or something for a bear warrior.

Re: Bear Warrior
I've always used a weapon on my Bear Warrior. (bear/battle rager)
I think the shapes could definitely use a buff, but out of bear shape I don't recall being horrible.

I'm still curious why no one plays this class? Would love some feedback.

It's buggy and my understanding is it's really strong mid levels, but falls off in epics...Akroma666 wrote:I'm still curious why no one plays this class? Would love some feedback.

Agreed!chad878262 wrote: It's buggy and my understanding is it's really strong mid levels, but falls off in epics...
Chad can you get the actual accurate numbers for each form so we can discuss some potential changes?
Also, does frenzy work as a bear warrior rage use like it does in PnP?

Aye. Add 1 acid damage and call it "Rabies!"Theodore01 wrote:As was said before, just use a weapon. You are a barbarian, that can change into a bear (which grants you a stronger rage at earlier level), but he still has his normal rage - use that for the trolls.

To the best of my knowledge nothing has changed and the custom classes post is accurate as to how things are supposed to work.Akroma666 wrote:Agreed!chad878262 wrote: It's buggy and my understanding is it's really strong mid levels, but falls off in epics...

It would be great if you could provide specific details about what is not working as this class was implemented before I joined QC and I haven't played it so I can't comment on what works and what doesn't, but I'm happy to post a list to the QC PRC boards and then hopefully a dev resource can pick it up to attempt to fix anything that is not working.

Re: Bear Warrior
I know these numbers are wrong.. The fast healing alone was changed. I think QC discussed changing it and it never actually was changed. Brown bear is gained at level 4 (not sure if this is a bug). Bear claws are not dealing the bonus damage, just changing their fist base damage.
This is bear warrior 7:

Re: Bear Warrior
Added to QC. Next time I am able to get in game (DDOS permitting) I will create a QC Bear Warrior and run some tests on AC, Damage, feats and bear progression and document anything that does not appear to be consistent with the description either in game or on the forums. I might be able to do so Friday, but no guarantee's.

Re: Bear Warrior
Thanks Chad! Would really appreciate it and help build our data. I am hoping to draft an accurate numbers proposal for QC for a slight class revamp. You guys can then tweek it for balance should you see fit. But I genuinely want to balance the class out. Buff black bear ever so slightly, nurf brown bear for late teens early epics, and buff dire bear to be epic sustainable.chad878262 wrote:Added to QC. Considering the bear warrior PnP version gets an absurd +20 STR and all the bonuses and none of the drawbacks.. I agree. Lol.chambordini wrote:Ideally I'd think of them as some manner of glass cannons, more so with the common barbarians than bear warriors but with high attack bonus and damage, very low defenses, and high HP to make up for it, alongside with some DR.
It's a trade off to be aware of certainly.
Conceptually I always felt like barbarian should have been a huge HP glass cannon. Like no AC, but has HP to take the occasional hit. No DR. But this stems from old EQ days.

The problem with those concepts is that they will be unplayable on our server.Akroma666 wrote:Conceptually I always felt like barbarian should have been a huge HP glass cannon. Like no AC, but has HP to take the occasional hit. No DR. But this stems from old EQ days.
Back to the Bear warrior. Where is it lacking?
