Sniping. Why isn't it a thing?

Unread post by kitteninablender »

So I think that it would be kind of cool to implement Sniping in the game. I was thinking something along these lines:

Trained Sniper:
Prerequisite: Crossbow Proficiency, Sneak Attack 3d6, Dex 17+
Benefit: You can deliver long-range sneak attacks to unsuspecting targets within 300 feet. Using this feat requires two full-round actions: One to aim, one to fire. You fire a single ranged attack against your target which applies your Sneak Attack up to 300 feet. The Sneak Attack damage is only applied if the target has yet to take an action in combat.

You could even make an advanced version for those who really specialize in sniping:

Stealthy Sniper:
Prerequisite: Trained Sniper, Dexterity 19+, Sneak Attack/Death Attack 5d6, Hide 13 Ranks
Benefit: When using your Sniping ability you do not break Stealth Mode until after the attack is delivered, at which point you automatically attempt to re-hide at a -20 penalty.

Or even better:

Precision Sniping
Prerequisite: Trained Sniper, Dexterity 19+, Sneak Attack/Death Attack 5d6
Benefit: By selecting this feat you can take an additional full-round action to Aim while using your Trained Sniper Ability. Doing so adds +2 to the attack roll and an additional 1d6 points of damage as you take the extra time to really make the shot count.

One of the things that's always kind of irked me is that the game engine doesn't allow for any sort of sniping. The closest thing we get to it is a Warlock's Eldritch Spear, but even then that's not really "Sniping."

I think that it would make sense from an RP perspective too. An Assassin who prefers to snipe his target from a long distance rather than have to close the distance and do the job within 30 feet.

Thoughts? Feedback?

That is what the OOBI class is meant to do but it is not working yet.

Also there is the problem of monsters not reacting at all even if they're being feathered to death because they do not perceive the attacker.
