Hello,
I am currently running a Monk / brawler type character based out of Baldur's Gate (Yes, It's Fergus)
I was wondering if it would be a good idea to take fighter levels for the unarmed weapon specialization feats?
I am trying to boost his BAB and min / average damage...
I had considered taking power attack and cleave, etc...but was not sure if it worked with flurry of blows...
any suggestions?
thanks

Fighter, Fist of Forest, AK or WoD, Dragonwarrior are valid choices to boost damage.
F4 is good, if you have a monks belt (icrit+wsp unarmed) its a tough choice.
Pure monk Wis-based is strong also. (Fiery Fist and Blazing Aura)

Re: Multiclass Monk and ??? options...
yeah,
I have tried:
DEX based Monks - good AC and fair BAB, but damage is iffy...
STR based monks - fair damage, poor AC...
current build:
WIS based monk - with intuitive attack, good AC and fair BAB, damage is iffy so far...
Was considering fighter 10 for the BAB and above mentioned feats...

yeah,
going cleric doesn't really fit for Fergus.
was thinking of just getting fire fists (always thought blazing aura was kinda OP).

No PA + flurry.
What do you get for 10 fighterlevels? What do you lose ?
Damage does not suck on a pure wis-monk. D30+ with 2 extra attacks is good

I think I'd like to at least get:
Weapon Specialization (+2 damage)
Weapon Mastery (+2 on attacks, +2 damage)
plus bonuses to BAB from Fighter levels...

Another option is 20 monk/3 cleric/7 sacred fist.
You get sacred fist's wisdom to damage, the speed bonus/unarmed damage of a level 27 monk, and some casting. Your casting should be mostly used for healing (if the healing domain is present), divine power (for BAB. You can prep a lot of these, more if the strength domain is present. Dispels don't really matter too much, since you have a lot of slots for these), and some minor buffs (owl's wisdom, bull's strength).
Go pure wisdom based, and pick up expose weakness as well. Ki Step wouldn't hurt either, its a pretty decent feat. It works best with the healing and strength domains, but it can work with other domains. Strength Domain is a serious asset, healing domain nets you heal as a 5th level spell (meaning, you'll be able to cast heal!).
I'd say the essential feats are:
Practiced Spellcaster (Cleric), Extend Spell, Epic Prowess, Expose Weakness, Blazing Aura, Intuitive Attack, Blindfight, Combat Casting (requirement for sacred fist).
Some neat ones to have would be:
Ki-Step, Weapon Focus (Unarmed Strike), Able Learner.
For stats, max out wisdom (start at 18, and keep pumping points in). If you want ki-step, ensure you have at least 13 dex. Get at least 12 con and 12 int (probably 14 int without able learner), and pour the rest into strength, keeping strength even.
For skills, max out concentration and listen/spot (both would be nice). Get 30 Spellcraft and 30 Tumble. Pick up 14 use magic device.
Its nearly the same as a pure monk, minus a little bit of monk stuff (the last 3 levels of it). In return, you get a massive AB boost and a bit of spell goodies.
--------
If you don't want to go that cleric route:
Monk 20/Fighter 4/X 6 (either another class, or 6 more fighter, as mentioned above).
Monk 16/Fighter 6/Assassin 8 is a good choice, for a none-wisdom build. This one would be more dex oriented.
