Hey, I've been sitting at 248 spells in my book for a while, because when you log in it says at 250 I'll get trimmed randomly. It started the warning at 245 but had been behaving as its supposed to up till now.
So, I added one more spell, trying to stuff my book like a good scholar, while keeping it under the 250 spell limit, and wham! you have too many spells, you'll be trimmed!
The trimming tool went through my spellbook like a boot camp hairdresser, and trimmed 92 spells. It appeared to alternate alphabetically??? Not sure of it's methods, but it stopped at S. Apparently deciding it had done enough damage at this point.
So what can we do about this? I took 3 screenshots of the spells taken, (it took three to get them all, and I now have an uncomfortable 156 spells, losing 92, including some hard to find ones, and some you have to take when leveling since you can't buy them.
It also trimmed spells I currently have memorized, so I'm afraid to rest, and don't intend to enter the world with a handicapped wizard. The loss of so many hard to find spells and high level spells also represents a significant investment of time and coin, not to mention the rp I spent bartering for some.
Please, can someone get back to me on this when possible?

I think because of that this warning is nowhere on the forums from what I can tell, or in the server rules, and the in-game information is misleading, you should be able to get back most of those spells. A DM could help with that, as they have scrolls in their DM tools. Its just time consuming.
Currently, the 250 spell limit is only word by mouth until you get near the cap and that it begins a purge before that is less known.
Wizards - do be careful. You don't need to memorize everything!

It's kinda not entirely unknown given that I have spoken about it in a few of my wizard advice threads here (under Removing Spells) and here.
The cap is actually 245. As soon as you get your 246th spell, the script is supposed to cull your spell book back to 245. You should have only lost 3 spells, not 92, meaning that you should be entitled to DM intervention to help get your lost spells back.
A similar thing happened to Aeili after the March Update because all the new cleric spells that got added were counted against her wizard spell cap and when I logged in after the update I had 280+ 'known' spells. I tried utilising the then-new Remove Spell feature to start dropping them but the script kicked in and I went back to 245. I didn't bother asking for DM help at the time because I just rebuilt completely with the then-100% RCR feature (although it did cost 110k gp to scribe the spells I wanted to keep for the rebuild

If the cap is actually 245, why then right after game login does it actually states the cap is 250? When you log in with 245+ spells, it tells you:Tsidkenu wrote:It's kinda not entirely unknown given that I have spoken about it in a few of my wizard advice threads here (under Removing Spells) and here.

"You have 24x amount of spells, when you reached 250 your spell book will be automatically trimmed. "
I just levelled and had 246 since last time I was able to choose spells (at which time script did nothing but warn me about the 250 spell limit), so I chose two new ones, bringing my total to 248(still nothing happened) it was only when I added #249 that the script did something.

Well you have to remember the last time I experienced the cap working as intended was back in March. Undocumented changes may have been made to it between now and then, and it seems on the whole that it is now no longer working as intended.
Devs, you might want to take another look at this one please.
