There is rumor that many bandits have been found dead in the area of the Boareskyr Bridge, allegedly killed in the most gruesome and diverse manners: half devoured, drained of blood and life fluids, literally blown up, scorched, frozen solid, hacked to pieces with their own weapons... The rare travelers witnessing the horrid spectacle tell rumored tales of a strange mist shrouding the killing zones, its black tendrils often extending till Soubar's edge.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Among the few adventurers capable and brave enough to venture towards the Serpent Hills looking for fame, glory and riches, a couple speak to their drinking companions in taverns and inns of odd fights between the humanoids living in the area and groups of undead seemingly coming out of nowhere, and attacking the hobgoblins that wander too close to the edges of the area towards Boareskyr or the Misty Forest. These rumors are harder to believe, since differently from the Bridge, there is never any sign of any confrontation, nor Walking Dead on sight.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Stories are beginning to circulate about the ruined tower overlooking the Boareskyr Bridge to be haunted. Rumors of of strange lights flashing in the darkest moment of the night, shadows moving around the long abandoned structure and chanting sounds that can be heard from the crumbling coutyard grounds are whispered, most likely to keep recalcitrant children in their beds and fool men from silly adventuring thoughts.

Rumors of the Spectre of Bridgefort and Undead sightings continue as a concealing mist is said to in parts still shroud areas near Soubar and Boareskyr Bridge, while corpses of bandits and wandering Hobgoblins from the north are said to be found dead in a sadly horrifying fashion.

- The Reaching Woods -
Image
Driven from their normal hunting grounds, more and more Gnoll are pushed toward the extremities of the Reaching woods as a result of Magmire's march, and it's lingering effects. Urlolauau a powerful Gnoll chieftain has taken leadership of mutable displaced tribes, and leads them in an even more fanatical worship of the demon lord Yeenoghu. Her threat has been growing for many years, but now is her chance for true dominance. Embolden with a new zeal, and empowered with fiendish blood in their ranks they push outward raiding the towns along the dusk road and are a bane to all that travel and live upon it. The relative tranquility of the woods now feels like a distant memory.

The druids still protect the ancient shrine of Eldath, but much of the rest of the wood has, at least for now, been lost. A band of Rangers have set up base camps in the woods, all the while towns, cities, and merchant orders of the area are hiring adventurers across the Heartlands to keep this new plague of Gnolls in check. Do you have what it takes to match magic and steel with them?

Other rumors of the north Reaching woods
Hidden: show
* The swiftness of Urlolauau's rise and conquest was quick enough to force Bandits, Wanted men, Goblins, and other Gnolls to stash away treasures they couldn't carry while escaping the areas they had once operated out of. An observant person might become rich if they survive.

* The Shrine of Eldath is protected by the Druids. As well, Eldath has blessed large flowing waters within the region -like waterfalls- and they are largely avoided by the Gnolls for now.

* Scouts report that these Gnolls are battle hardened veterans blooded by countless wars, infighting, survived plagues, and many of which have the empowering blood of Fiends in their veins! They should not be underestimated do to this revelation. (Epic area)

* Rumors Speak of an ancient bear the size of a mountain that's been named White tooth, do to his bone ridges being shaped like a small peak in the Sunset mountains of the same name.

* Stories tell of young woman disappearing from towns and homesteads in the area over last year before the Gnolls rise to power. With all the chaos from that time period most sadly went unnoticed.

* A band of Istishia worshipers speaking about some gate traveled into this regen of the woods early in 1350, and have not been heard from sense.

* Pressed by Gnolls following Urlolauau, and Gnolls fleeing her wrath. The Gobliniod's that once dominated that area of the forest have become more disparate and savage. The Goblin's still greatly out number the Gnolls, but they lack the power to fight -her- Gnolls. Though they will readily pick off any unrelated Gnoll tribes, and the occasional lone Fiend blooded when the opportunity arises.

As the winds shift in and around Soubar, a new rumor is spread during merchant deals, alongside ales consumed, and the offloading of passengers via caravan.

It is said warriors and bodyguards are sought for hire, especially those that seek to make a name for themselves, being the kind that have no qualms about duties, once a contract is made and payment secured. An emphasis is put on fighters without goodly ideals guiding their swordarm, nor in servitude or direct allegiance to any temple or Lord. It is even said that half-orcs are preferred, the more brutal and blooded the better.

But with the influx of new faces with questionable agendas, it seems none know exactly which man or woman is the contact for this forming...outfit. A few new arrivals to Soubar seem to be ganging up more often and consistently—and many eyes seem to be observant of those with outwardly mighty strength and skill.

As more bits and pieces are put together through numerous sharing of this one rumor, it may be understood that those boisterous enough to make themselves known by tale and deed—or taunt and bluff—are being contacted by a representative.

//Specifically interested in characters level 10 or lower, for hire. However, any characters looking to learn who IS doing the hiring, can post RP interest, and get feedback from us on what is learned/observed—consider this actions in plain sight, but only noticeable if you learn what to look for. Cheers.

The Scribe leaves the winding way Inn with his messenger bag in tow. It being completely filled with cylinders, making it sag. He walks out placing one on the door of the Winding Way. All this before taking his leave in Bart the Wagon-man's cart towards the coast.

A man may have been noticed all along the Northern Tradeway over the last few days, just South of Soubar. Prowling about scattered ruins, inspecting landmarks, he appears to be either looking for something in particular or surveying what is already found.

The man seemed to be carrying rolled maps, marking them with bits of chalk or a grease pencil whenever he stood on higher ground.

Just one among the throngs of brigands, evil mages, dopplegangers, werefolk, and other ne'er do wells that have been migrating to and through Soubar of late, he may not be noticed immediately.

He is there, however, a man known as Eidolon. Paying bar tabs of those that will regale him with stories of adventure in nearby locations, or share with him a collection of local myths and legends that may be loosed with alcohol. A patron of song and story, he prefers those that tell 'true' tales, or at least plausible enough to be so. He pays premium for legends about the Kingdom of Man, and the smattering of local nobles and would-be nobles that have ruled in the regions, on and off, for centuries.

As he makes contact and acquaintance with any that will have him, he makes subtle attempts to find out who holds the real power in Soubar and the lands surrounding it, what the locals and newcomers think of the Ebon Blade, and what they think of Captain Greil Nightgale in particular.

Those paying close attention and knowledgeable in such things may note that the man wears an amulet with the chalice of Siamorphe quite prominently, and does his best to subtly steer impressions of the Ebon Blade, and Greil Nightgale in particular, in a positive, optimistic direction.

The call is made...and heard, as the ales are slammed upon tables and beards are pulled straight in testament to the challenge placed.

One such dwarf—missing from the Sword Coast for many years, though once known as a dedicated wanderer of dungeons, of trails, of adventure—appears within the Northern Lands of Baldur's Gate. His southern-ly path can not be traced to the known Dwarven stronghold of the north.

Whenever he encounters any along this southern trail, he brashly—many would say rudely—announces his clan name:

"Orcslayer...Baggar Orcslayer, if ye need ta know it proper. Now tell me straight, youz...been ye seen an Orc this day? Cuz if I ain't killed an Orc a day, I ain't no pleasant stout to be 'round!"

The stout, Baggar Orcslayer, then moves on, his eyes always searching, but this day, with great attempt, for...something.

A very wet dwarf—soaking, actually, such that his old boots slosh as he steps forward—enters the grounds proper of Soubar. He looks pleased, but he doesn't look happy about it...the oddity of such expression, even on the face of a dwarf, catches a few stares by the villagers.

As he sloshes his way towards the Winding Way Inn, he can be heard grumbling about two things, to himself, it appears: how much he hates imps, and, how much he hates taking unscheduled bathes in rivers where bugbears also bathe.

As he continues upon his way, some may notice his gait is a bit off, even for a dwarf—it seems two shafts of spears are sticking out from his trousers with no real explanation why he is carrying them there, and in that fashion...or maybe it is because he walks toward the Inn with both fists clenched, possibly incapable of loosening up...at least in the moment.

DM Spartacus wrote:the Brawl at Boareskyr Bridge

A Dwarf Dunhelm Deepsnur, a survivor of the brawl, and burdened with injury, rests up at Soubar. He calls for his clan and kin and folks with a mind to support the Dwarves in this to gather at the Inn there so they can drink of ale, boast of deed, andcount spears held, sought and owned outright. So there can be due consideration given to gathering more as is rightfully Dwarven.
It would seem that after the dwarven meeting—where eighteen spears were given to Dunhelm Deepsnur—the gathered dwarves made a motion to bring Dunhelm to Kraak Helzaak, where he could be better treated and possibly healed, if it was merely normal wounds, and not any form of curse wounds—imps be damned!

There, it was said by many a dwarf present in the Winding Way, that Dunhelm could be healed by finer dwarven ale than what was available in the present tavern.

So says the rumors....

Ebon Blade Daily - Lieutenant's return

After being gone on another southbound contract, El enters the fort carrying quite a lot with her. Loaded as a mule, she strides heavily upstairs where she goes straight for Captain's room. The woman carefully places the crate and bags by the wall before looking about the empty chamber for a moment with a slightly furrowed brow. Without further delay, she closes the door and would not be seen for few hours.

After having finally emerged from the room, El heads downstairs where she leaves a message for the mercs. A similar memo is also left at the Winging Way Inn with Mag.

El spends a moment talking to the archers at top of the EB's small tower.

Finally, she makes a body count of able bodies within the company. When her work is done, she leaves a notice for the members and recruits both at the Fort and at Winding Way Inn.

Ebon Blade Daily - Company Meeting and Patrol

Lieutenant did not waste her time and dived right into work planning a new patrol schedule and trying to get a hold of everyone, both old and new members and recruits. Soon mercs that were available gathered at the fort around the meeting table to discuss contracts, Militia training, and few internal matters.
Image

When the meeting came to an end, El took the Company to the Northern Trade Way for a group patrol. Not a single bandit or an orcish scout was apprehended or seen. Only the ever-present pack of wolves. Pelts were collected and later sold to a merchant oprating from Soubar.
Image

Lieutenant made sure that the company also had some exercise in formations. Response time to commands was commendable.

////DMs I will pay coin for the couriers it is part of the RP for this and should be charged from my PC that he paid for the couriers. Those that follow Hoar or are just looking for a guild we will meet at the jump point to Thundar's ride just North of the Radiant Heart Chapter house. For newer people this is the church looking building in the Eastern Farmlands area. The meeting will be at 2000 GMT on Sunday January 15th so that everyone has time to plan for it and try and be there.

Ebon Blade Daily - Patroling Soubar's environs and Thundar's Ride

Having heard from the archers and scouts about some more nasty thugs lurking in vicinity trying to harass and extract some payments for crossing Boareskyr Bridge in a manner more obtrusive than usual, Lieutenant embarked outside the hamlet's wall to check for herself. The reports proved correct, and soon the woman came across some pesky wannabe bandits waiting for travelers a little too close to Soubar for Lieutenant's liking. At first, she tried to reason with them, trying to offer these halfwits a job but they wouldn't have it, so she struck them down swiftly.
Image

Eleanor went back to EB's Fort to see who is available and having found Drogo she ordered the hin to join her. The two successfully performed a thinning among the ruffians.
Image

After Soubar's and Bridge's environs were yet again a little more peaceful, El and Drogo decided to make sure that some of the bugbears that appeared too interested in travelers, caravans, and hunters were eliminated.
Image

Before returning to Soubar, mercs took a moment to look over Thundar's Ride and unable to spot any threats they returned to the village.
