Re: Dm Trust
It's totally possible for a DM to abuse their position to feed their friends information like that, Lock; but it's also against the rules for them to do so. The very first rule of the DM Code of Conduct is
Ultimately, the players and DMs need to be able to trust each other. But there's no such thing as a perfect system, and if one person betrays all our trusts for their own gain then all we can do is remove them from power so that further betrayal cannot be done to us.
Fortunately, I think we have a pretty honest and server-focused DM team right now. So we're very lucky in that respect, and the dedication of our DMs to the server should be appreciated. Though it goes without saying that any reports of favoritism will be looked into as a matter of course.
All that being said, the DMs have not historically supported "PVP guilds," or guilds whose mission statement is PVP. DMs adjudicate assassinations, and sometimes break up PVP that's gone really ugly (or where rules have been broken), but generally try not to take sides in PVP encounters. Which is why "guild war" situations are so tricky for the DMs.
Unfortunately, DMs have been removed for lack of fairness and lack of impartiality in the past, and I'm sure it will happen again. It's up to players and other DMs to report suspicious behavior. The HDMs investigate it -- if it's against a HDM, the admins investigate it.1.) Be fair: While it is impossible for most people to divorce themselves entirely from their biases, we expect you to try. Your position is not an invitation for you to favor your faction(s), your friends, or your player character(s). Because you will often be called upon to adjudicate disputes and level punishments as well as rewards, we expect you to be fair at all levels. If you are afraid your involvement in something is a conflict of interest (or might be perceived as one), please pass it along to a more neutral DM. Because favoritism and abuse of power are such serious concerns, you can and will be removed from your position if these become an issue for you.
