Gate vs Epic Gate

Looking at epic spells, I can't really see a reason why you'd pick Epic Gate? Is there something I need to be educated about?

Gate
-Is extended with Thaumaturgist (or should be at least?)
-Can select creatures from a list of many.
-Takes a 9th lvl slot.

Epic Gate
-Not extended with Thamaturgist.
-Can only choose between a devil and an angel (IIRC the xorn isn't even an option).
-Costs an epic feat.

Because when the first of the Epic Gate's creatures dies, a second one is instantly summoned.

It's a very good spell, but you need to know how to use it, and a character that can benefit from it.

For instance, a classic glass arcanist instantly uses Epic Gate when his/her buffed summon is trashed in battle. If Shadow Simulacrum were in its original vastly overpowered form, then I would be with you: you'd probably discard Epic Gate unless you were a particularly intensive High Arcana user with few 9th Circle Spell Slots to spare.

But right now, what prevents Epic Gate from being more popular is ignorance: people have no idea how to use it, and they try to use it as a Summon Creature/Animate Dead spell, and end up obviously disappointed (short duration).

Epic gate also does not use a summon slot, So you can have two angels.

Auto extend from thaumaturgist does extend epic gate duration. Also the creatures from epic gate and gate are very different, epic one is much stronger melee wise and AC wise while normal gate summon, for angel and xorn are cleric 20 that come with a bunch of spells (healing included).

For nos there is no double summoning for epic gate but it will be corrected when time allows.

I thought thaumaturge is not supposted to extend gate and Epic gate?

You can't have a planar cohorte coming from gate spell, as they are permanent, but auto extend does apply to gate spells.

For nos there is no double summoning for epic gate but it will be corrected when time allows.

If that's not fixed, the investment isn't worth it. But that has nothing to do with Epic Gate per se, which in its intended form is a very good spell.

No, and not sure it will. Either way the epic gate is still completely worth it compared to Gate spell.

All the summons were overhauled, epic gate summons included.

Duration : 40 Rounds for the epic spell and if you see that the Planar Binding, Greater Duration : 1 min. * cLevel
10 Rounds(cLevel). and you can buff so it will be much stronger

Epic Gate is also extended via the thaumaturge feat. It summons a 24 HD elemental or a 20 HD outsider.

i miss the old days where the Angel have 35 Str unbuffed, and 280 HP unbuffed.

but the recent Solar is not bad, somehow better (but lesser STR and lesser HP)
