I vividly recall standing in the longest movie line I'd ever seen when we went to see the first one back in 1977. Seems like so long ago. And yet at only 60 she passed way too young.

I've literally been fighting tears all day.
I was born in '80, so Star Wars pretty much WAS my childhood. Fighting with my sister over who got to read Jabba's subtitles in Jedi, wanting to be Luke Skywalker roaring down the Death Star trench in an X-wing fighter (seriously, X-Wing is STILL one of my favorite games ever. @#$% Battlefront, EA. Give us an ACTUAL X-Wing game again!). I can't even remember the first time I saw the Original Trilogy, because it was such a central part of growing up. It's just always been there. And yes, like pretty much EVERY guy the Gold Bikini held a special place in my...heart once I was old enough to appreciate it.
Star Wars was a monumental burden for her to bear. To be so relatively new to the industry and to be thrust so suddenly into the spotlight, to become an icon overnight. She struggled against so much, and she persevered. She was a vibrant, talented, and downright HILARIOUS woman. I mean seriously, just look up her roast of Lucas from his AFI achievement award in 2009.
Her passing is a literal kick in my childhood, like a lifelong friend has gone away, never to return. My heart goes out to her family. For while we may have lost an icon, they have lost a daughter and a mother.
All of us are richer for having shared her journey, and all of us are poorer for seeing her go.
Carrie, wherever you are, you will always be royalty.

I was pretty shocked, but I hadnt really followed the news about her condition the days prior to it.
Sounds like she was fighting a losing battle. I hope she is at peace now.

Episode 8 will be her last work posthumously observed. Going to be sad, seeing her scenes knowing this. She was hilarous with her interviews. I'll miss her.
