85 Player Limit

Unread post by Steve »

Hello,
Though I totally appreciate an 85 Player limit now working on BGTSCC—I just noticed today—I noticed because I'm experiencing an amazingly awful amount of lag, 1+ minute long transitions, and dialogue boxes that take 3 times as long to process.

With all honesty, whenever the Server is filled with more than 65 Players, what I experience on my end is such a slowed down and slightly dangerous situation, that it actually leaves me with few options of "what to do." The "dangerous" I use is one of those limitations: I do not adventure, because I am avoiding Lag Deaths (which do happen, and I think no one likes them).

And I'll add that when a DM event—or two—is going on as well, I might as well log off or limit the game to simple campfire RP, because the lag is so very bad.

So, I humbly ask that the Server Player Limit is re-evaluated to be put back to 75, if not even lower! When the Server is hosting less than 65 Players, my experience is near perfect! I say this with empirical knowledge spread over many months of gameplay in...the last months.

Cheers.

EDIT: Now, if I'm the only one experiencing this issue, then I'm just SOL and that is fine. But damn...I'm really hoping I am not!! :|

Think is more to do with the DM events than 10 extra players personally.

But I am not a smart man.

Better that eighty five or seventy five people can enjoy camp fire RP, Then locking of twenty to thirty people from RPing at all. Fact is its an old game with many limitations, Sometimes that means a number of people will have to deal with a few hours of campfire RP to allow a larger number to enjoy the game.

That said while i experience long load times i do not experience any lag. Mind you i am an aussie and i always play with 200 - 300 ping so its not like its a giant step.

Maybe some kind of limitation on DM monster spawning when 65+ people on? Again I dont know if it is the 4 dm's we have doing events perhaps or the amount of people that just made us crash.

Are we able to find out whats causing it mainly?

I agree with Steve on this one. Long load times are bad and now the server crashed. Really kills your want to play and all with long load times. :|

Tons of lag has been going on. I can confirm as well, which it just crashed. It's awesome to fit more people on yes but if the server can't handle it, ti doesn't make it fun for anyone when it's constantly lagging or dropping. May be best for now to just keep it to what it was where it was at least tolerable.

I'm pretty sure the biggest culprit is many people in the same area. The more the worse. This is a problem for all online games, and especially an old un-optimized one like nwn2. This is also the reason why people shout NOT stand around in the nexus chatting. Well, one reason :D

75 is the default cap to which the server will reset to every time it restarts.

We occasionally raise it during peak periods when a lot of people are trying to log in, but to do so is a manual process that is reversed every reset.

Being at 85/85 was pretty cool to see, but server stability does start to degrade after about 78-79 (and, as noted, even earlier for some people).

TLDR: This isn't (wasn't) a permanent change.

Okay, that is good news (as it stands).

I only speak for myself here, but I'd rather be locked out of a max-populated Server—until I can log in with a vacancy—and experience steady gameplay and a snappy Server. I know about NWN2s limitations, and I know first hand how Events and many-Toons-in-an-Area can Lag the Server...but I also know they can be mitigated!! ;)

Cheers. I don't mean to poke the Server in a negative way, simply point out that it can be...off putting...to experience degraded gameplay because of...the situation. I know, I know...luxury problems! But a problem nonetheless! 8-)
