Blood Vision spell

Unread post by DivinityDelayed »

From what I understand... Blood Vision spells creates a copy of a creature (or another character), which the caster can then view their stats, levels, alignment, etc.

I haven't been able to find any information on this 0 level spells, but these illusions cannot be dispelled, even with greater dispelling. I've heard that some players are using these to 'tank' monsters while fighting... seems like a crazy powerful 0 level spell, if you ask me... and the fact that someone with minimal power can effectively 'copy' someone...

Is it intended to work like that? Is there a link to documentation on how it is supposed to work?

0 level spell, that lasts 20 rounds (2 turns), and creates a copy of a creature or character, retaining their AC and HP (though apparently unable to deal damage). Also gives the caster access to their character sheet... Not subject to SR or a save.

I did find this link: http://sulerin.com/spells/detail.asp?op ... ood+Vision

This is the only place I could find information on this spell. Clearly I think this was intended to be a small illusion spell for RP purposes, and which may have worked on the table top, but the way it is implemented it can easily be exploited to be game-breaking.

In testing after I posted this originally, I watched a player's character create multiple copies of their gondsman which blocked pathing, effectively creating a high-AC bucket-of-HP wall, by only expending 0 level spells. They also copied my character, and another character, and were able to see alighnment, class levels, stats, saves, feats, and skills as I understand.

I don't mind the spell to be available in the spirit of how the spell was written, I think it's a neat idea for a spell, and I understand we have limitations imposed by the platform itself... I might suggest the spell text is edited to state the intention to be for rp purposes, and one must have reasonable access to blood or a corpse for it to work, or perhaps it doesn't work on living things and things that don't have blood?

Or... just remove it entirely. It's not in the d20 SRD anyway. It seems like it might be a pain to police to ensure it's not exploited in this current implementation?

Duration can be lowered, maybe make the illusion ethereal and umbumpable so you can go through it. Also limiting it to one at a time.

Other spells are similar to this, including malicious Image, and Shadow Simulacrum. It's not really too difficult to figure out what someone's build is, especially running with them in combat, and the inventory is never exposed.

This could be treated instead that it isn't added to the player's party which negates the character screen opening option.

It's duration remains, it's HP/AC with a limit, and remains unable to attack, and from there a limit on the feat use in duration via cooldown.

Make it work only when cast on a player's corpse too.

Eliminates the exploitation and retains the RP intention for the spell.

And at least it's not as bad now as it was back in March when it first came in, when the spell would create unlimited, permanent simulacrums that didn't even disappear after resting
