Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire
I did a search for Pillars of Eternity on here before posting this, and noticed that there are some fans of the Pillars of Eternity game around these parts. I didn't find a dedicated thread to it, otherwise I'd have cast "Raise Dead" and posted there.
That said, I'm personally very excited about this ->POE II Deadfire, and just pledged to support it (I backed the original too). DISCLAIMER: The link will bring you to the Fig crowdfunding website, which contains a decent amount of information on the game, as well as many backing options to choose from.

Now, the waiting begins (and a deep and abiding hope that it will run on my current rig...).

Re: Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire
Hm. I honestly never finished playing through PoE I. It was all right, but not really enough to keep my attention. TBH I've never been overly fond of juggling an entire party, and prefer being able to focus on playing one character. Wouldn't mind a game where the NPCs were treated like they were PCs run by other players, who manage all their equipment, leveling up, etc. themselves, but I've yet to see an AI that could actually make that viable.EnialusMeliamne wrote:I did a search for Pillars of Eternity on here before posting this, and noticed that there are some fans of the Pillars of Eternity game around these parts. I think the coolest thing it offered was that rather than Focus/Spec in individual weapons, you got to choose weapon SETS instead, so you weren't overly specialized in your equipment. I felt the limited mod support was also rather crippling.

Super looking forward to this. I loved PoE. As a spirit shaman RPer, PoE's protagonist basically being a medium and seeing spirits and memories is right up my boat.
Also... poor Edér. He just can't catch a break with Eothas.

It's good to see another Eder fan. In my last run, he was my tank fighter while my main (fighter) was my striker. He's in every party I use. One of my favorite gaming characters in any game I've finished.Rhifox wrote:Super looking forward to this. I loved PoE. I loved that feature, as well! Very convenient, particularly with regards to the differing damage resistances some of the creatures had.Ambaryerno wrote:I think the coolest thing it offered was that rather than Focus/Spec in individual weapons, you got to choose weapon SETS instead, so you weren't overly specialized in your equipment. I loved Edér! He was so personable. The perfect down-to-earth character. He's likewise one of my favorite RPG party characters ever. I always was disappointed that he didn't get more development in PoE--his character story seemed really short and then he stopped doing anything new until the endgame. Hoping to see more with II.EnialusMeliamne wrote:It's good to see another Eder fan. In my last run, he was my tank fighter while my main (fighter) was my striker. He's in every party I use. Less than 24 hours later, they're completely funded for the game. I'm not really surprised, given the level of fanship that developed for the first game, but even so that was wicked awesome to read.

Maybe I should try playing POE again. I'd probably need to start from scratch because it's been so long I'll have forgotten just where I am.

I can only speak for me, but the expansions greatly increased the general feel of the game, as far as I was concerned. That said, I had to discipline myself to not continue restartitis every week or so.

Eder is amazing solely for the reason he is voiced by Matt Mercer who is also the greatest DM in the world if you've ever watch Critical Role

Re: Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire
One of the things I hope they look into for II is the inventory and equipment management system. I found it extremely challenging to determine quickly if the gear I picked up was better than what I already had or not, and I often ended up carting around a LOT of garbage in my inventory because selling it off was kind of a pain.
It's been a while, but I don't think characters you left behind at the stronghold could level up while they were there. Even sending them on missions didn't seem to have an effect.
The NPC companions could use some work, too. I have to admit that except for Durance and Eder, most of the companions weren't particularly memorable to me (hell, I can't remember any of their names, either). It's not like Minsc, Dynaheir, Khalid, Jaheira, and Imoen in the original Baldur's Gate. Despite not having a lot of voiced dialogue, they nonetheless had a LOT of personality. PoE's companions for the most part kind of fell flat, and I didn't really have a lot of interest in following up on their personal quests.

Yes, yes and yes! Gonna back this one because I was late to the party with the first one. Which is not so bad - the game as it is now is a lot better than when I first bought it.

Reminds me to finish my game of PoE with scaled-down xp...
