Re: Lengthening one's life
Well alright then, that settles it! I'll live forever!
I'm going to eat healthy, exercise, drink lots and lots of beer (thanks for that one Chad), eat my veggies, get something that get's me up in the morning (I seriously need that), get enough vitamines, then die next to a druid, get reincarnated, not kill elminster, become an undead lich chosen of a god, clone myself, use a wish or miracle spell, potions of longlivety, then get stuck in a magical tooth during the spell plague, while in the magical tooth, I'll do my pushups, situps (and walk 10 miles a day?), then become a mage and just cast Ioulaum's Longevity, then become a vegaterian, drinking lot's of juice and live all through the ages with my positive acceptance of the trials of life . . . while I'm petrified . . .
That should do it, right?
( I hope I don't accidentally use Ioulaum's Longevity on Elminster

I'd also assume if you were wealthy enough you could utilize various magical cures for the root causes of death. Regeneration would certainly help broken hips. That spell probably gets used a lot with all those giant towers and hundreds of stairs....
Vogar Eol - Dwarf, "I likes pixie wine. It just be hard catching enough pixies to squeeze."
Rashal - Lady's Man, "What do you call a male elf? Pathetic, as it were."

Re: Lengthening one's life
Those things you guys were thinking of are the Inevitables, the lawful planar constructs that exist to enforce idioms, like "Everything dies eventually." Maruts are the ones who enforce inevitable death. There are also Kolyaruts for oath-breakers, and Zelekhuts for those who dodge rightful justice for too long.

Malark Springhill once drank a potion of eternal youth and became immortal.
There are also epic feats that extend your life.
There are rumors that blood magic also can help on this. After all, blood mages have to die to discover the power of blood.
