Introduction and Bard question

Unread post by yinyangzealot »

Hi everyone,

Just a quick intro to the forum. I played on the server way back in 2009, when Shadowdancers could be strength based and Hymn of Requiem was still op. :)

I've been playing for a few days now and I'd like to thank everyone I've had the opportunity to RP with. As was the case back then, there are some really great RP'ers on the server. Some really interesting characters.

I took the newbie advice of downloading the new textures pack and I have to say some of the areas are simply breathtaking now. And the custom changes are very interesting. Kudos to the team for what is obviously a lot of hard work.

It makes me slightly regret not rolling a ranger to explore all the lovely areas, but I have an idea of a character who's a nature bard of Silvanus, perhaps going on to Stormsinger. Who knows. I'm curious, however, I know Bard prestige classes stack for the number of Bardsongs, but not which songs. But do the effects stack?

What I mean by this, is eg. Countersong is 10 + bard levels. For this is it *just* Bard levels or is it 10 + Bard levels +Bardic Prestige Class? Like Dissonant Chord levels PLUS Bard levels or just Bard levels? Same for Haven Song and the other songs that rely on Bard levels as a modifier. Do Bardic prestige classes like Stormsinger count to these modifiers, or is it just bare bard levels? It would seem logical that prestige classes count to the dc to the various songs, otherwise a 10 level dip into something like Stormsinger would actually be hurting your character as a Bard. But it's nice to be sure before rolling the character.

I don't want to totally gimp the Bardic side of my character for the RP side of it, you see. I can always RP him as being a nature Bard, but I want to get the best use of my Bardic abilities, as it is such a fun class to play, mechanically.

Anyway thanks in advance and see you on the server.

For countersong I'm not sure but for the rest of the songs the bard levels and bardic PRC levels do stack.

Don't worry, Bard's are still OP :D Better as STR based or EDM Bards mixing in 4 Fighter or 4 Blackguard, but even as DC Bards they do just fine, so long as they pick the right spells and no how and when to use songs. Have fun and welcome back!

^ this pretty much. Hard to break a bard build and even if you do you will pretty much have the best RP capability of any class out there.

Nice concept, as when the Bard first came out in D@D it was Druid baced, not Arcane.

I seem to remember reading some old fantasy novels that featured druid-bards. I think it's an awesome archetype.

Ring a dong dillo! I always saw him as more of a nature spirit but I guess he is a druid bard.

Well, the thinking was, when I was researching Silvanus I noted that his two major feast days were called Song of the Tree and Dance of the Dryad. Both of these heavily involve sacred music.

His father was a druid of Silvanus, his mother a bard of Oghma and stormsinger. His father regards clerics as a lower rung compared to druids, as does the Church in total and is slightly disappointed he didn't follow in his footsteps.

His main instrument is the hand drum and to him, music is a sacred gift of Silvanus, tied heavily to the rhythms and melody of nature. He venerates Oghma in a secondary capacity too as his main belief is in the sacred Balance of both the Oak Father and the Great Binder.

He doesn't use music for entertainment purposes,as he feels that sullies the sacred nature of it. For him at least. He enjoys listening to other bards.

His real RP purpose is to seek out other seekers of Balance, especially followers of Silvanus and help in a lesser, but specialised way, particularly, should there ever be such an event, the two feast days outlined above. Ditto groups whose primary focus might be maintaining this Balance.

Can I just take the time to thank everyone I have RP'ed with and all the people involved on the server. It's a testament to everyone's hard work that a game as old and limited as NWN2 is so complex and vibrant in this environment. Cheers
