Really good movies
So I looked around in this forum and could not find any sort of good movie list. I figured I may as well make one. Yesterday I saw a fantastic movie called "The assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford". It's a 2.5 hour western biographical movie but it is done really well. The acting is top notch, directing is solid, and cinematography is beautifully done. I was shocked that I had not heard of it before.
So what about y'all? Any hidden gems out there?

Re: Really good movies
My favorite movie of all times is the Intouchables. It's a french movie that worked it's way from arthouse to main screen.
I know, I'm a softie.
P.S: No, I'm not French

I don't know if it qualifies as a hidden gem, but so much of my personal philosophy accords well with the phrase "be excellent to each other (and party on dudes)."

Agreed, The Untouchables is a fantastic movie. The Fall (the movie and not the tv show) is also another beautiful movie that isn't well known.

I really enjoyed Krull, The 13th Warrior, and Fallen. I don't know if they are obscure gems but I found them all to be quite enjoyable and not on anyone's watch list for popular movies.

Re: Really good movies
Not sure about hidden gems but some films I love that got slammed by critics:
The Fifth Element
The 13th Warrior (right?)
Dragonheart (okay it sucks but in a good way)
A Life Less Ordinary
Robin Hood Prince of Thieves
Films that got good reviews but hardly anyone I meet has seen:
In Bruges
Let the Right One In (original Swedish version!)

Sicario
Not the greatest narrative, but the soundtrack and the cinematography are just nnnnnnnnnngh. The scene when they are crossing the border is just pure perfection.

Nah I mean movies you like. Whether they elicit fear, optimism, joy, deep thought, laughter, or anything really. Movies you feel are amongst the best and wish to share with the community.Lockonnow wrote:Really good movies shall it be a good feeling movie is that what you mean by Really good movies?

Re: Really good movies
Ravenous - what if cannibalism DID actually make you stronger?
What Dreams May Come - not many seemed to like this Robin Williams flick, and the acting in some parts is painful to watch, but the story and the content are wonderful. Based-ish on Dante's Inferno, with Robin Williams in a serious role.
Brick - a film noir about a high school student investigating...something (no spoilers)...this is a hard-boiled detective movie - don't let the 'high-school' part fool you. Stars a younger Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Troll Hunter - European fake (or IS it?!?) documentary about some film students who follow around a government troll hunter. If you like trolls AND nature documentaries, it's a good watch.
