Countering Dispels

Been doing a little research into how dispels work, how Spell Resistance works, and things like Breach and Mords.

It seems to me that a cleric with the Spell Resistance ward has about a 50/50 chance of resisting a hostile spell from an equal level caster. Breach and Mords particularly like to strip that defense too.

However, I just read that SR buff... while not stacking with itself... can be cast multiple times on a target. The effect is basically applying layers of wards. If four castings of SR were applied, but a dispel or breach stripped three... the cleric would still maintain an SR buff.

Has anyone tried to test that in game, or had any experience with that trick?

no, I have not tried/tested applying multiple copies of the same ward, but some wards have a similar trick... For instance you can cast Shield and Deez's repulsive shadow barrier. If one drops you will lose part of the benefit (immunity to magic missile or 20% concealment), but will retain +4 Shield AC. The same can be done with Spiderskin and Shadow Shield with natural AC.

The best defense against Mords and/or Breach is not to get hit! Carry an invisibility wand, use HiPS, boots of etherealness and try to time it right so the spell is lost (I suck at this, but I'm told some players are quite successful with these methods).

That's great and all about not getting hit, but doubt that's an option in this case.

On a related note, how does ethereal jaunt function vs the trueseeing spell? I'm suspecting I have an angry sorcerer as a nemesis now, due to some unexpected events.

I seriously doubt my spell book has nearly enough dispels for counterspell either. Fortunately, I do have a shiny Lathander's Last belt, and an item of Feeblemind immunity.

You could try a wand of arcane disjunction...they have to be found, can't be crafted... Not sure if you can counter spell with a wand, but if you can that'd be your best bet.

On this server Trueseeing spots through Ethrealness, correct? Does it allow single target or only area spells?
