Concerning DM Events
Hello, I am a new player and I am rather confused on how DM events work? Can anyone shed some simple light on this?

Re: Concerning DM Events
This is probably the great riddle that has perplexed players since the game was invented!snailz wrote:...how DM events work?
But on a serious note, In my experience, DM events are "random" in that each DM has their prerogative of when and with whom to initiate an Event. That is kinda the baseline. DMs then make effort to interact with Players/Characters that are equally engaged in the general ongoings of the Server. This is, of course, relative.
You, as the Player, have a greater chance of experiencing Events by a) being in a Timezone where more DMs are online on a regular basis, b) play a Character that is a member of an active Guild or Group involved in any sort of storyline, c) you yourself—and your PC—generate interesting storylines and include other Players/PCs in this, and that can increase the likelihood of a DM Event happening, for you (and those others, which is a nice bonus, yes?).
Another, more simple way of saying it, is: just role-play to your hearts desire, and, when possible, make an effort to join an Event, if that comes into your play/game schedule.

Re: Concerning DM Events
Hi Snailz, welcome to the server!
To your question, we have a team of DMs (or Dungeon Masters) who are able to interact with other players from a special instance of the game called the DM Client. This client essentially lets them produce monsters, props, buildings, visual effects, music, NPC characters, treasure, and more. They can even talk from their monsters and characters, toggle them hostile and non-hostile, and start things on fire.
Basically it allows DMs to tell real-time stories with players, and for players to participate in those stories, in a way that few other games (where most events and encounters are scripted) do.
Our DMs also do double duty as "tech support," and help people with problems pretty frequently when they're not running events.
As for how the process of events works, it depends. Some events are scheduled in advance (usually for an ongoing campaign or for a guild-focused event), while others are totally random and completely unannounced. Some DMs will shout out hints, like "a huge explosion at the Cloakwood Mines can be heard from miles around," while others will hunt for a small group of people roleplaying a dungeon crawl and then actively make it more interesting for them.
Finally, there's a huge subset of events that are classified "player requests." This is when individual players or small groups ask the DMs to do something to help support the story they're telling. There aren't enough DMs to run a one-on-one long-term campaign for any one player, but if the story you're promoting with your character is that he or she is a demon hunter, and it's something you've been playing up for a while, and you organize a small group to join you for a demon hunt? Well, the DMs might be willing to run that event for you to help your story. The best way to ask them is as a group via PM, because they can track such requests more easily on the forum. But you can also try to ask them in game if it's a spontaneous event -- if a DM's actually available at that moment, they may surprise you by jumping in to help. Though if they're already doing something you may have to turn to the forums as above.
If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask!

Re: Concerning DM Events
From my admittedly short experience of the server so far, this is my experience with DM events:
- I haven't seen any scheduled events, like a forum post or something detailing time, place, participation limits, etc.
- I have seen 1 event announced in shout that was open for all, but there was no story, and it was just hack-n-slash with 25+ players of all levels.
- A couple of times I have had a DM spice up a dungeon run with a few extra spawns. Both times I was in a small group.
- I have seen several closed events going on for a specific character, or a small group. They seemed to be heavily story driven.
- When I have needed help with stuff and asked a DM, they have always been extremely friendly and willing to come to my aid.

Re: Concerning DM Events
That's the risk you take when you go for announcing the event. No one's got time to do proper RP with 25 people, half of whom will be screaming for attention while the other half silently regret they came :Ededude wrote:

Every once in a while like just the other day, an event is announced for players within a level range. This is mostly to keep it for low levels, so if you're a new player and you see anything like that, don't be a "good roleplayer" and think to yourself "but how would my character know?" just get there and have fun. If anyone asks, the skies parted and a scroll came slowly falling down through a pillar of light naming you the chosen one and saying that is the place you need to be at that point in time. If it helps for immersion, you can add a bottle prop for your character to hold while saying it.
That's a lot of talk though. Just find the character Isabella Villame. You'll be saving the world soon enough. Or dooming it if that's your preference. Or making records of how it happens so Candlekeep has something to read about safe behind their wards when the rest of the world has perished.
"They're just furry and misunderstood."
"Is that why you are killing them?"
"Yes. They will atone in death."
"Ah. That will help them understand."

Re: Concerning DM Events
//The other event that was random was only talking and Rping
Few adventurers were served food and water by orc cook and her assistants. the food was barbecued and the smell was all over FAI. (they were allowed by Bently the Mayor to sell food there).People tend to come to buy and eat the food, and sits over the chairs and talking..like a nice evening. nothing weird is going on.
Suddenly the FAI guards turned into "badgers" and talking towards the residence and travelers. It does not bother much until the orc cook turned into "Black Oak Treant" but talking to the travellers like there is nothing wrong with the food that they served. Final Grand Event is when Mudd the merchant auctioneer turned into "Pit Fiend" and everyone starts to panic! Black mist suddenly conjures around the sundial, and everyone was put to sleep.
It turns out that "Fey" is at work here..they tried to poison the food with drug like properties and everyone even the one who inhales the black mist sees illusion and ends up sleeping. Mayor Bently woke everybody up, and tells everyone that they were given, or inhaling poisonous drugs... Fey's might want to abduct more people... and Bently is the Knight and Shining armor saving travellers from being used, or abducted by Fey's
//An awesome event thought it does not require any Hack and slash at all
