Alchemical Silver
Hello friends!
Once again, here I am to drink from the wisdom of the sages of this realm! hehe
I was testing an alchemichal silver sword with a friend, we went to attack some skeletons.
On BG graveyard for example, the skeletons still soaked some damage, it was 5DR if I'm not mistaken. My question is, should not an alchemical silver blade bypass the DR from a skeleton and something is wrong, or am I'm mistaken, making some confusion?

Re: Alchemical Silver
Skeleton damage resistance can only be bypassed by bludgeoning weapons. It's the only useful weapon to skatter their bones apart
piercing or slashing weapons don't hurt as much, as they don't feel as much.
Alchemical silver is very useful against shapechangers, vampires, bearded devils, wraiths and wights, but has little extra effect against other creatures.

Re: Alchemical Silver
Just to be clear, everyone should try to have an Alchemical Silver and a Cold Iron Weapon, all the better if you can find them enchanted. Demons (a la Balor) need Cold Iron and Devils (Pit Fiend) require Alchemical Silver. Especially if you are not a high STR build using those to get past the ~ 15/DR can be a helpful way to take on some boss fights.
The original post was already answered so I just thought it might be beneficial to add where Silver/Cold Iron is useful.

Re: Alchemical Silver
For the Pit Fiend and the Balor the Cold Iron and Silver weapon alone is not enough. It must be either BLESSED or a HOLY AVENGER in order to bypass DR of these two highest order fiends. A wand of Bless Weapon will suffice and lasts 15 minutes....but beware they can be stripped thanks to Dispel now working....Oh the evils of the coast......If only getting a HOLY AVENGER were easier to do.....As it stands I think I have seen one HOLY AVENGER and it was a longsword (HOW BORING THEY ARE ALWAYS SWORDS)........chad878262 wrote:Just to be clear, everyone should try to have an Alchemical Silver and a Cold Iron Weapon, all the better if you can find them enchanted. Re: Alchemical Silver
I thought Adamantine bypassed every DR on NWN2? That was the bug right? Hence why you do not see Adamantine weapons on the server? I used to complain about this but then I realized how much more important other metals and weapons became with this rule in place and the fact that well since a big part of this servers particular difficulty level is monster DR and EPIC monster DR that makes it tough the adamantine weapon is OP by server standards. I much prefer a good enchanted weapon that has EXTRA MELEE DAMAGE : BLUNT. Still looking for a alchemical silver spear with this actually.....since that would be optimal for undead killing covering liches, vampires and skeletons and then dual purposing as a devil slayer you can not lose too much with a alchemical silver weapon that is blunt damage. In theory having a weapon like that means only needing to carry a cold iron back up weapon and you are good to go.Lockonnow wrote:well Adamintine not by pass the DR on skeletons DMs!?

I have never heard that adamantine bypasses cold iron or alchemical silver resistance. I think they are banned because it bypasses stoneskins and premonition, but I can't confirm that, it is just my opinion.

Re: Alchemical Silver
Adamantine does not bypass Cold Iron or Silver DR. It does bypass magical protections like Stoneskin & Premonition because those spells offer X/adamantine DR. Curiously, an unenchanted adamantine blade should not be able to bypass Ghostly or Ethereal Visage as those two spells offer X/magic DR, so unless the adamantine blade is +1 or better, it will be useless.
Demons typically have X/cold iron & good DR, however this is supposed to work as a one-or-the-other concept, not both. That is, someone with a cold iron weapon is supposed to be able to ignore a demon's DR just as equally as a paladin or cleric who have cast Bless Weapon/Align Weapon: Good on their own non-silver blade.
Quite a lot of 'epic' mobs simply have X/- DR, meaning nothing bypasses it at all (the same kind as dwarven defender & barbarian). That is why invisible blades have such a frustrating time on BG because their bleed never does any damage against a monster with 2/- or 3/- DR.

I think Mithral weapons should do extra damage to either Balrogs or Elves. Maybe both.
