Vesgar wrote:You mentioned this before, but you can't buy that from npc shops, so you can't just buy it whenever you need it, and it's quite expensive when you can. I know it's a minor inconvenience, but you must also invest quite a lot skill points into UMD to be any good with lvl6 scrolls.

I'm not saying it's not a good solution, but definitely not an easy one.
I am fairly certain Superior Resistance scrolls can be purchased and pretty cheap, but if not I'm certain Greater Resistance are available and +3 still helps (cross-class spellcraft for another +3 vs. spells)... You can also craft a wand of Greater Resistance (Shameless plug: Tarent's Wands and Elixirs, tell your friends)

There used to be a post that had a link to a WONDERFUL excel sheet that listed all spells and where you could find scrolls. It was rather old so it didn't list all the new ones (which you need to select on level up anyway), but was still very helpful in regards to learning where to buy baseline spells. I could swear that I didn't select Superior Resistance on level up because it was one of the cheaper scrolls you could buy, but I might be misremembering, wouldn't be the first time. :)
Vesgar wrote:I thought of this before, but when it comes to annoying spellcasters what do you think about Touch of Idiocy? Is it any good?
So long as the target doesn't have Spell Resistance Touch of Idiocy will work, so long as you realize there are short comings. you may have to use multiple charges/scrolls if you roll low on your d6... It's also a melee touch attack spell which means you cast it and then touch the target so you can't do it from range and as soon as you start casting you will not longer be in stealth. If Touch of Idiocy doesn't remove the spell being cast (because you rolled a 1 on your d6 to their casting stat, for instance) you could be in trouble... It's too bad melee touch spells don't have a duration so you can cast them and then have them apply to your next attack roll. All-in-all there are better options, such using a silence wand on the ground at the casters feat, then rush up to keep them in the silence radius and proceed to HiPS/attack until they die.

I thought it was at High Hedge, but again, my memory may be faulty as it's been a while. If I can find that spreadsheet I'll repost it, that post should really be stickied somewhere.

Here you go, says it can't be bought but scribed. Had it open in a browser tab for over half a year now. Scribing it is... I think it was like 1650 gold per scroll.

Thanks Pimple... It's Greater Resistance at High Hedge so +3 instead of +6, but fairly cheap if I recall... I can check later if no one is available to run over and take a look. And yes, 1650 /scroll is the cost to scribe Superior Resistance as a player, hopefully some day my suggestions for reducing scribing and brewing costs will be implemented... (currently scrolls are 25*SL*CL and I recommended reducing it to 10, which would make this scroll 660 each instead of 1650, which is more aligned to pricing charged by NPC merchants).

In any the saves are really a 'last line of defense' for anything you neglected to defend against directly... you'd be surprised how much a simple 28 SR amulet can do to protect from most nasty effects. And as Matelener wrote, wands of Death Ward, Prot from Alignment and Mantle can be real life savers.

Actually with Matelener's advice on what to ward myself against, I today finally managed to beat the Queen. Those +3 scrolls where between 200 - 300 I believe, so really cheap.
That said, there are some hard bosses in the game but it feels so great finally succeeding after failing so many times.

Back to the OP.

I checked the log to see what we did wrong, seeing I was there with you.
First of all there was nothing wrong with your stealth or what you did. My stealth is only a few points higher and I can loot his chests right under his nose if I want too. I think you tried to stealth really close to them and I noticed that they sometimes decide to just ignore your stealth attempt.
Even then I sometimes still get the sneak attack in, while they are hitting me. So I am pretty sure it is just a bug.

What I did wrong however was forgetting that he becomes immune to acid when he nears the end of the fight. I was arrogant and stayed in the room, instead of using the corner to safely cast invis and then proceed to spam dispels at him while invisibile untill I would have removed every ward.

His bigby's then kept me stunlocked for ages, but somehow you can still stealth and heal up then. So suddenly it was not us two but you alone against him and his summoned little friend, while I stared helplessly watching you die.
Also if we would have known the advice Matelener posted, we could have warded ourselves better. Our death wards where clearly not enough.

And if you weren't having enough bad luck already. In that specific lair body's seem to always vanish for some reason, so you even missed out on the loot. Seeing he respawned again by the time I could finally rezz you. (Thank you DM Bembel for helping us out btw!).

So I hope you are willing to give it another go.

Or if you are a real penny pincher, there are +2 Conviction scrolls for 1gp! :)

Moved to Character Building, since the thread belongs in the Tips and Tricks section of the forums.
If the text is this color, I am on duty, everything else is just my humble opinion.

@Juramenta, this is exactly what I meant when I talked about looking at what went wrong and considering how it could be avoided. Well done by you. Hopefully this thread helps others interested in sneaker type of game play as it really is rewarding, even if it is more difficult and quite frustrating, especially early on when you have limited gear, limited gold and limited knowledge of the server (at least as it relates to stealth gameplay, but especially if new to the server as well). Thanks for posting your analysis.
