I finally downloaded the client extension, and no longer crash every time I examine one of my custom summons.
That said, I noticed that some of them have Power Attack. How exactly does one get them to use that, or does it simply remain fluff? I tried toggling "Uses Combat Modes", to no effect.

They will automatically turn on PA when they are fighting enemies with AC much lower than their AB. If the AI determines that utilising PA would be disadvantageous to scoring hits, they won't use it (yes, they metagame the opponents AC
)

Considering I was using summons from the level 9 spells against Kobolds...

They toggle it off and on very quickly. Check the stats and calculate the + bonus damage to see if its active.
